MOVABLE SERVING-TABLE.
Specification of letters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1911.
Application filed September 17, 1910. Serial No. 582,531.
To all whom 'it my concern:
Be it known that I,JOSEPH J. GABRIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Movable Serving- Tables, of which the following isa specification, reference being had accompanying drawing.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved vehicle for transporting food, dishes, and other things from place to place in a hotel or other public place where meals are served; also 'for use in hospitals, and private dwellings in order to facilitate the handling of dishes and other articles and tosave time and labor.
The invention consists of a wheeled ve hicle provided with means for carrying all the different utensils and other things used in hotels and private houses in transporting food from place to place so constructed and arranged that the articles transported can be easily placed and arranged on the vehicle and removed therefrom.
Referring to the accompanying drawingsz Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the movable serving table constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a side View in longitudinal section of the device. Fig. 3 is an end view in cross section. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view of a portion of the body of the main frame of the device with parts broken away.
In carrying out the invention a shallow rectangular oblong tray 1 is provided which is mounted on longitudinal side bars 2, the tray and'side bars being supported on the axles 3 and Wheels 4; at the end of said axles by any suitablemeans, and, as here shown, preferably by means of a vertical strip of sheet metal 5, whichis rolled at its lower end to form a sleeve or casing for the shaft 3 of the wheels, the upper end of the sheet 5 being bent at an angle, as at 7, and secured to the under side of the tray 1. The sheet metal stri 5 is braced at each end by means of a longitudinal bar 8 which is secured to the underside of the tray 1 and has each end abutting against the strip 5. Suitable drawers therein to the one located above the other, the upper tray resting on the table'and removable from the main structure so that whenit is desired to use the lower tray only, the upper one may be dispensed with.
It will be found that by means of this construction, food, dishes, cloths, and other articles used in hotels and private houses and in public places may be readily moved from one place to another in large quantities.
Having described the invention, I claim 1. In a device of the character described, an oblong rectangular tray having depending sides, a shaft and Wheels beneath each end of said tray and a depending strip of sheet metal secured to each end of said tray and having its lower end coiled about said shaft to form a sleeve for said shaft.
2. In a device of the character described, an oblong rectangular shallow tray having longitudinal depending sides, a pair of wheels with a shaft at each end ofsaid tray, a strip of sheet metal secured at its-upper end to each end of said tray and formed with a sleeve at its lower end in which the shaft of the adjacent pair of wheels is mounted, a longitudinal bar secured to the underside of said tray having each end abutting against one of said strips of sheet metal and a detachable oblong table having its to formed with a shallow tray, and mounte on said first-named tray.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH J. GABRIEL. Witnesses:
