. mUNITED STATE-s PATENT OFFICE.
HARNESSLFASTENER 7b all whom 'it may concern:
`- Be it known that I, TULLmJ. citizen of the United States, Carlisle, in the county offlark and State of hio, have invented certa-in new and useful Improvements' in Harness-Fasteners;-
SCARFF, a
" .aaa do declare the following` t be a fun,
and exact descriptionlef the invention,
" )sueh as will enable others skilled in the art vto which it appertains to makeand use the same, reference being hadlto the accompanying drawings, and tothe reference characters marked thereon, which form. a -part of this specification. 'i
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fasteners for harness.
The object of the inventionis to provide a 'harness fastener that is simple in construction, 'that may be easily unfastened, and which will not become accidentally detached when in use. p
\Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a horse collar with my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the fastener; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation ofthe same.
t Throghout'the specification and drawings, similar-"reference characters indicate corresponding parts.
While in the drawings I have shown the fastener as applied to a horse collar, it will be understood that the device may be ap plied to any part of the harness.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, l -represents a horse collar which is opened at the tQp-'to'allow the collar to be placed around the neck of a horse without slipping the sameV over the animals head.
'At the o ening thus'provided is placed my improved) fastener, Iwhich is constructed as follows. The fastener consists of two members 2 and 3 lwhich are mounted on each Specication of Letters Patent. A.Application filed March 16, 1911.
residing at New Patented June 27, 1911. serial No. 614,762.
side ofthe collar respectively. The member 2 is provided with a liexible member4 which, when the fastener is closed, passes through an opening ina loop 5 onv the member 3. The flexible member 4 may be made of any pliable material such as a spring, and said member 4 isprovided with an opening G'adapted to receive a pin 7 on the member 3.` The member 3 is provided with extensions, 3a which lie under-,the member 2, and which are instru- A mental in holding the members 2 and 3V in alinement.
rIt will be seen from the drawings thatwhen the collar is closed, the loop 5' will hold the exible member 4 on locking the collar in a cl sed position. It will also be noted that theiiexible member 4 cannot be deta ed from 4the pin 7 unless the free end of the member 4 is pressed up wardly; consequently the fastener cannot become detached by anyA movements of the become unfastened by.
