ATTACHMENT FOR DOUGHE-PANS.
Be it known that I, NETTIE E. BETSWORTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Douche- Pans, of which the following is a specification.
The main object of this invention is to provide an attachment for douche pans which will prevent liquid from splashing over the end of the pan.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device for this purpose which will be adjustable in height, and which can be collapsed so as to occupy small space when not in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this character which will be sanitary, being readily separable and accessible at all points for cleaning.
Other objects of the invention will appear hereinafter.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention, and referring thereto :Figure 1 is a perspective of a douche pan with my attachment in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line w 00 in Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a longitudinal section of the attachment, in collapsed position. Fig. 4 is a perspective of the attachment in open or raised position.
The attachment consists of a plurality of members or plates 1, 2 and 3 preferably of sheet metal such as block tin or other material which is not subject to corrosion under the conditions of use, and bent in are or crescent shape, these members tapering toward each end and theirend portions being overlapped and connected together at each end by pivots 4, so that the members 1, 2 and 3 may telescope or nest within one another, and may move to closed or folded position as shown in Fig. 3, or to open or extended position, as shown in Fig. at. Said pivots preferably consist of screws having heads 4 sweated to the inside member 1 and extending through members 2 and 3, a thumb nut 5 screwing on each screw 4 to hold the parts in tight contact when desired. A retaining means 6 for holding the attachment in place on the pan is also secured by means of this thumb nut, said retaining means consisting of a strip of elastic metal held between the thumb nut and the outside member 3, the screw 4 extending through Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 19, 1911.
Patented June 27, 1911. Serial No. 622,141.
the strip 6 which may be turned around said screw to any desired position, and may be clamped in any position by the thumb nut. This strip 6 is provided with a shoulder or bond 7 adapted to rest on top of the edge of the pan, and with a roll or bend 6 at its lower end, serving as a means for manipulation and for facilitating the passage of the strips over the sides of the pan.
The outer member 3 is provided with a rearwardly or outwardly extending pin or post 8 to extend and engage over the rear edge of the pan, said post being threaded to receive a thumb nut 9. A retaining strip or arm 10 of elastic metal is mounted on this post to turn thereon and may be clamped by said thumb nut, this strip having a shoulder 11 to rest on top of the edge of the pan, and having a roll 12 at its lower end for facilitating its manipulation.
The sheet metal members 2 and 3 are provided with internal flanges or lips 15 at their upper edges to engage the outer faces of the members directly within said members, and the members 1 and 2 are provided with internal flanges or lips 16 engaging with the inner faces of the members within the same, these lips 15 and 16 providing a water tight joint at all times, between the adjacent members.
The attachment is applied to a pan indieated at 17 in Figs. 1 and 2, by turning down the strips or arms 6 and 10, engaging them over the side and rear rims of the pan with the shoulders 7 and 11 resting on the edges of said rims. The rear button or thumb nut 9 is screwed tight to clamp the arm 10 against the rim of the pan and to clamp the outer member to said rim. The nesting members 1 and 2 are then raised as far as may be desired, to give the proper height to the attachment and are then fastened in such position by tightening the thumb nuts 5 thereby clamping the several members 1, 2 and 3 into tight frictional contact, clamping the arms 6 in position and clamping the ends of the attachment to the run.
In using the douche pan with this attachment any liquid that may be splashed toward the rear of the pan will be caught by this attachment, acting as a wall to return the liquid into the pan. The attachment can be quickly removed by loosening screws 5 and 9 and may be folded into compact shape for packing as shown in Fig. 3, the
several members 1, 2 and 3 being then nested so that the attachment may, if desired, be placed within the pan.
Vhat I claim is 1. An attachment for douche pans comprising a plurality of nesting members formed as plates tapering toward each end and having their corresponding ends pivoted together, and clamping means at their pivotal connections for clamping said members together.
2. An attachment for douche pans comprising a plurality of nesting members formed as plates tapering toward each end and having their corresponding ends pivoted together, and clamping means at their pivotal connections for clamping said members together, in combination with elastic arms mounted to turn on the pivots at the ends of said members, and adapted to be engaged and clamped by the said clamping means.
3. An attachment for douche pans comprising a plurality of nesting members formed as plates tapering toward each end and having their corresponding ends pivoted together, and clamping means at their pivotal connections for clamping said members together, in combination with elastic arms mounted to turn on the pivots at the ends of said members, and adapted to be engaged and clamped by the said clamping means,
the outermost member having a post extending outwardly therefrom, an elastic arm mounted to turn on said post, and a clamping means on said post for engaging said arm to clamp the arm and the outer member in position. 7
4. An attachment for douche pans comprising a plurality of nesting members formed-as plates tapering toward each end and having their corresponding ends pivoted together, and clamping means at their pivotal connections for clamping said members together, in combination with elastic arms mounted to turn on the pivots at the ends of said members, and adapted to be engaged and clamped by the said clamping'means, the outermost member having a post extending outwardly therefrom, an elastic arm mounted to turn on said post, and a clamping means on said post for engaging said arm to clamp the arm and the outer member in position, said elastic arms having shoul ders for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 11th day of April, 1911.
