Description
ST. JOHN OSULLIVAN. SANITARY POCKET GUSPIDOR. APPLICATION rmm mm 9, mo.
Patented June 20, 1911.
SiEESEEE l/VVf/VTQR ATTORNEY ST. JOHN OSULLIVAN, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
SANITARY POCKET-CUSPIDOR.
aeaaoa.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 20, 1911.
Application filed June 9, 1910. Serial No. 566,003.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ST. JOHN OSULLIVAN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, iave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Pocket-Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sanitary pocket cuspidors which are composed of an inner and an outer case, and the objects are to provide a neat, safe, economical and sanitary pocket receptacle'for expectorations.
For a fuller understanding of the invention, including its operation and characteristic advantages, reference is made to the following detail description and the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View of my invention, closed, Fig. 2 is an end elevational view of the same, Fig. 3 is an end elevational view thereof, open, Fig. 1 is a top view of the same closed, Fig. 5 is a plan View of the inside case before folding, Fig. 6 is a side elevational view of the same folded, ready to be put into the outer case, and Fig. 7 is an end view of the same.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My invention is composed of an outer case, consisting of a rigid base portion 1, an upper portion divided into a plurality of sections, end sections 2, large side sections 3, small side sections 4 and lid sections 5 and 6, all of which are provided with hinge joints Z), properly placed to give said upper portion flexibility and to join it to the lower portion or base 1, for the purpose of giving flexibility to said upper portion and provided with torsional springs c, to cause it to open readily; on the back of said outer case and centrally located on one of the large side sections 3, is provided a spring plate, f, extending above said section 3 and adapted to operate in connection with another spring plate 6, which is attached to lid section 5, these springs e and f operate in connection with each other to hold the lid in position; over the top edge of section 3 on the front side of said outer case is provided a clasp g, fitting loosely on said lid, adapted for holding in position a portion h of the inner casing and on the lower edge of said section 3 1S provided plate (Z, with free edge adapted to act as a clasp for holding portion 7', of said 1nner casing, and an inside flexible water-proof removable casing as shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, and folded on dotted lines 70, to fit said outer casing and shaped as shown in Fig. 6 when folded and adapted to hold cotton or other absorbents and is readily removable from said outer casing. It will be readily seen that with this construction the lid portion folding over at an acute angle, causes the casings to be absolutely tight, even when inverted, thus making it a safe, clean, convenient and sanitary cuspidor which is practically water-proof, and can be readily cleaned by removing inside casing and replacing it with a fresh one, and can be readily opened or closed by raising or lowering the cover.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A sanitary pocket cuspidor comprising a rigid lower part or base, an upper part, hinged and jointed to give it flexibility, and joined to said rigid lower part or base by hinges, a lid, spring means to facilitate the opening and closing of said lid, all substan tially as set forth.
2. A sanitary pocket cuspidor, consisting of a rigid lower part or base, an upper part, hinged to give it flexibility, hinge joints connecting said upper andlower parts, torsional springs to facilitate opening and closing, a lid portion, springs operating in connection with each other, to keep said lid open or closed, all substantially as set forth.
3. A sanitary pocket cuspidor, comprising a rigid lower part or base, an upper part hinged to give it flexibility, hinge joints, joining said upper part to said rigid lower part or base, springs to facilitate opening and closing, a lid, springs operating in connection with each other to keep said lid open or closed, an inner, flexible, removable casing, means for fastening said inner casing to the outer casing, all substantially as set forth.
4. A sanitary pocket cuspidor, comprising a lower part or base, an upper part, hinged to give it flexibility, hinge joints connecting said upper and lower parts, hinges provided With springs to facilitate opening and clos- In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my ing, a lid port-ion, springs to keep said lid hand, in the presence of two subscribing Witportion open or closed as may be desired, an nesses.
