To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE E. NEEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmdale, in the county of Taylor and State of Texas, have invented new and useful I1nprovement-s in Portable Stoves, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to portable stoves, primarily intended for use upon farms, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be easily and quickly moved from place to place to suit the convenience of the operator.

With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the inventionv resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings there has been illustrated a simple and preferred embodiment of the invention, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a sectional View upon the line 22, of Fig. 1.

The improved stove preferably comprises a rectangular member, which is provided with slides 1, a rear portion 2, a front portion comprising a door 3, and top and bottom portions, designated respectively by the numerals l and 5. Each of these members is preferably formed of a single plate of suitable metal. In the device illustrated in the drawings, the top, sides and bottom plates are effectively set up and secured together through the medium of detachable bracing or connecting rods 6. The rods 6 are also constructed of suitable metal, preferably malleable, and have their ends bent at right angles to provide fingers which rest over the top plate t and the bottom plate 5 and thereby effectively connect the plates together.

The top plate 4 is provided with a plurality of openings, normally closed through the medium of the usual lids 7 and the top plate is also provided with a suitable removable pipe 8 with a damper 9 adapted to serve as an outlet for the products of combustion. The front or door 3 is hingedly connected with one of the sides as indicated by the numeral 10. This front plate 3 is provided with a suitable hinged latch 11 which is adapted to engage with an offset finger 12 provided upon the side 1 opposite to that to which the said front is connected. The front has its lower portion provided with spaced cut away portions 13, and these cut away portions are provided with a suitable draft regulator, indicated by the numeral 14. This regulator 14 comprises a sliding plate provided with a plurality of cut away portions or openings corresponding with the openings 13, and the spaces between the openings in the door 3, as well as in the regulator 14:, are of a width approximately equaling the width of the said openings, so that the regulator 14: can be slid to entirely close the openings 13, or to only partially close the said openings, as desired.

The bottom plate 5 is provided adjacent its edges with spaced ears and adapted to be connected to these cars are rollers 15. The inner faces of the sides 1 are each provided with longitudinally extending substantially L-shaped members 15. These L- shaped members are adapted to extend the entire length of the stove and are positioned a slight distance above the air inlet openings 13. These L-shaped members 15 are adapted for the reception of the side members or walls of a removable grate 16. This grate 16 comprises a plurality of spaced longitudinally extending bars, connected together through the medium of spaced rods and being arranged in series, one above the other, so that the lower bars are positioned intermediate each pair of the.upper bars. By this arrangement it will be noted that the air entering the openings 13 of the door 3 is caused to be directed between each pair of the lower bars of the grate and from thence directed upon opposite sides of each of the longitudinal bars positioned directly above the said lower bars, thus creating a draft which will insure the proper combustion of the fuel placed upon the upper bars of the grate and thereby providing for the rapid heating of the stove. It will be further noted that the rods supporting the grate bars extend the entire width of the stove, so that the inward movement of the side members 1 is effectively prevented, and the Lshaped members 15 extending the entire lengths of the sides contact with the rear wall 2 and prevent inward movement thereof. Both of the sides 1, adjacent their forward ends, are provided with suitable eyes 17, and these eyes are adapted for the reception of the OE- set ends of a substantially U-shaped bail handle 18.

It Will be further noted that by constructing a grate in the manner described, a great amount of air is quickly heated Within the stove and a rapid combustion of the fuel upon the grate readily attained.

Having thus described the invention,what I claim is A knock-down stove comprising side members, a top member, a bottom member and prising a door, the side members being provided With longitudinally extending L- shaped elements extending the entire length and adapted to contact the ends, the L- shaped elements also adapted to support a plurality of longitudinally arranged bars, the top being provided with a pipe having a valve, and a plurality of strap members having offset ends adapted to engage the top and bottom to support the sides and one of the ends.
