UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT J. KECK, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
MEMORANDUM-SLIP CLIP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ALBERT J. Knorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Memoranda-Slip Clips, of which the following is a specification.
My -invention relates to improvements in memoranda slip clips and has for its primary object a device of its kind which `is adapted for the entry of notes and which can be easily carried upon the garment of the user where it can be easily and quickly used.
The primary object of this invention is simplicity of construction and greater effectiveness in use.
In.the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention showing the entry pad extended; Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view showing the entry pad in receded position; Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 2 taken on the line X-X; Fig. t is a perspective view of an alternate construction of my invention showing the entry pad eX- tended, and Fig. 5 is a' perspective view of the construction illustrated in Fig. t showing the entry pad in receded position.
This invention is more particularly adapted to be attached in the sleeve of a coat or to be used by holding the same in the hand.
'When in the act of making an entry the device is opened and when the entry is made it is adapted to close automatically and form a compact parcel of small dimensions.
A represents a suitable pocket made of cardboard, Celluloid, metal, or other suitable material in which a slip clip or entry pad B made of suitable material such as Celluloid in the form of a iiat strip is adapted to slide endwise. The ends of the pocket A are open and on one end is a luff 2 around which an elastic band 3 is hitched. This elastic band is attached to the inner end of the pad B by looping the same through a'n opening 4L. The slip clip is provided with pairs of stop shoulders 5 and 6 on itsends and the pocket A has a pair of stops 7 in the form of pins passing through the sides thereof and against which the stop shoulders 5 and 6 are adapted to impinge when the slip clip is withdrawn or receded into the pocket, thus limiting its movement and preventing it from becoming detached from the pocket or Specification of Letters Patent.

receding entirely within the same. The outer end of the slip clip is formed with a gripping piece 8 by which it can be withdrawn from the pocket. One side of the pocket has a safety pin 9 or other` separable coupling device fastened thereto by which the pocket can be detachably secured in the sleeve of the user or upon any other support desired.
In use, the slip clip is extended from the pocket and any memoranda desired inscribed thereon. When it is not desired to use the same the slip clip is released into the pocket.
This device forms a convenient and ready means for entering and keeping memoranda and can be conveniently carried by the user.
In the alternate construction shown in Fig. 4 the pocket member is in the form of a plate 10 and in addition to the lug 2 shown in the preferred construction, the plate is perforated at 11 and the elastic band passed around said lug and through said perforation and attached to the slip clip member B by a loop 12 of wire. The pocket and slip clip members can be made out of stiff material such as thin metal or Celluloid. The slip clip member carries a band 13 and the pocket member a band 14, said bands respectively passing around both members and forming guides which permit longitudinal movement of the slip clip on the pocket member. The term on stated in the preceding sentence is used as the full equivalent of the terms within and into where found in this specification and the claim following the same. The safety pin on the pocket member is soldered or otherwise secured to said member, by which the device can be attached to any suitable support. The bands 13 and 14: serve to limit the outward movement of the slip clip and the slip clip can serve to hold slips of paper when desired, upon which memoranda notes can be set down. l
In accordance with the patent statutes, I have described the principle of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which T now consider to represent the bestembodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth, within the scope of the following claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect bybLetters Patent, is
A device of the dass set forth, comprising, in combination, n rectangular card heving` :t side edge formed With shoulders at both ends, a pocket in which said Card is adapted to slide having a lug near its inner end and a stop near the outer end of one of its Side edges and a resilient member secured to the inner end of Said card and engaged with Said lug to draw said card int-o said pocket, Said Shoulders at both ends of smid card being adapted to impinge against Suid Stop to limit the movement of said card in reverse directions in Said pocket.
In testimony whereof, l have signed my name to this speeiiication, in the presence of two subscribing WitneSSes.
ALBERT J. KEGK.
