Description

E. ESENDER. WINDOW VENTILAT-OR.
APPLICATION FILED Dm. 21, 1910.
Patented Jun@ 13, w11.
Illllll l N I "'ENY UR W'ITNESSES BALTIEGRE, MARYLAND.
WINDOW-VENTMTOR.
Spyecication o' Letters Patent.
Il'xatented time i3, iill.,
npplieetien filed December 21, l'p. Serial Eo. esse-S9.
To' all' wenns it moy eoawern." Y Y y Re it known that I, EnwAnnEsnNnnn, `aA` citizen of the United States, residingV at. Baltimore,- in the State of lviaryland,A have invented certain new and usefulv Improve niente in Window-Ventilatore, or' which thev following is a specilieation, reference being had therein to the accompanyin V drawing.
This invention relates to win ow ventilators and has for its object the production of a ventilator which may be att-ached toa Window in such amanner as to regulate the amount of fresh air which is desired to be admitted into a room.
Another object of this invention is the production of a ventilator which issiniple in construction, eiiieient in operation, and
` consists of a comparatively small number of parts. Y
With these and other objects in View, this invention consists of certain :novel construetions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
f course, the invention is susceptible of changes in detail construction as fall Within the scope of the appendedclaim.
In the drawings Figure .l is a perspective View of the preferred form of the'prcscnt invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View of the forni of the ventilator illus trated in Fig. l applied inactual operation, Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the modified form of my invention', wherein the body portion of the ventilator is foi-ined Ain one piece. Fig. ll is a transverse sectional view of the modified form of the ventilator as illustrated .in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the rest pin used in connection with the present invent-ion. y
Referring to the drawings by numerals, l designates a body which consists of a primary section 2 which is slidably mounted upon 'the auxiliary section 3. Each oil the sections of the body carries at one end an end member 1l which end member 4 is provided with a ilat outer face 5, and a body en-` gaging face 6 which extends parallel with the outer face 5 for a portion of its length, but is curved inwardly at its lower end. The body 1 is formed' so as to contorni with the shape of ithe face 3 of the end members e, and by refer-ring' to Fig. 2 of the drawing, it will be obvious that as the air enters the ventilator in the direction indicated by the arrows, the air will strike tbe body l of the ventilator and be deflected upwardly thereby preventing any direct draft .troni entering through the ventilator. in this manner n complete `circulation of fresh air will be created in the room without the danger of any draft. provided with an upper and lower roller' rolled portion 8 is adapted to engage the sill 9 and through the medium of the rest pins and window sash as hereinafter described, the ventilator will be firmly held in place.
.The end members 4; are provided upon ltheir outer faces With downwardly inclined sockets 1G which are adapted to receive the shank portions l2 or" the rest pins ll. The rest pins l are provided with flattened heads 13 for receiving the lower end of the sash'le. It will be obvious that since the sockets 10 are downwardly inclined thereby having the heads 13 of thc rest pins` extend ing upwardly a good clamping act-ion will be obtained between the heads i3 of the socket pins and the upper end of the face 5 of the ond members 42. The bead or rolled portion 8 will also clamp the sill 9 and be firmly held in place through the medium of 'the-pins 1l as previously described.
fin the form as illustrated in Fiws. l and 2 by means of' the adjustable bo( y l, the ventilator be adjusted to dilierent Width Windows.
in Figs, 3 and el l have illustrated a modiled form o iny invention, wherein the body portion la consists ot one piece and this form is adapted to be used in connection with very wide windows, It will also be obvious that the dilied form will be very cheap to oonstruL ff is also the case with the form as illustrate n liigs. land 2 and it shuld be borne in mind that the saine features are connnon to the present embodiment as that illustrated in 1 and 2. The end meinbers la are of the saine construction as illus,- trated and described in the other .embodiment and the ventilator will be firmly held in place by means of the clamping action between the. loweiedge or' the sash and the side thereof, in view of the fact that the lower edge of the sash will be engaged by the outer end of the pins Ill, and the side of the sash will be clamped against the outer faces of the end members The sections 2 and 3 are each portions 7 and 8 respectively, and the lower It will be obvious that when it is desired to only admit a small amount of air into the room, the rest pins may be removed from the upper socket as illustrated in Fig. 2 and placed in the lower socket, and the sash lowered to this position. Of course, the pins 11 may be placed in any of thesesockets and it should be understood that the present application is not limited to any special number as any desrednuinber of sockets may be used.
It should be understood that the present invention is specially adaptable t0 sleeping rooms and in View of the fact that the ventilator is placed so as to extend Within the room and does not extend outside of the Window, the same will be protected against the Weather. It should also be understood that the present invention may be used in places other than sleeping rooms as for instance,
ofces, halls, churches, Work rooms, and they like.
'When considering Fig. 3 of the drawing, it will be obvious that the body portion 1a is, like the form disclosed in Fig. l, rovided with a rolled portion extending a ong the top thereof.
vWhat I claim is i- A Window ventilator comprising a body, end pieces therefor provided with straight rear faces, said rear faces' being provided with vertical rows of inclined sockets, and Window supporting pins for selective engagement With said sockets.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
