TGY.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 13,` 1911.
Appication filed February 14, 1911. Serial No. 608,562.
My invention relatesA to .improvements in toys and particularly to limprovements in l v darts and sllngs for shooting them, and consists in the construction, combination and arrangement\ of\ devices hereinafter dem scribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved sling and dart showing the same connected together for use in shooting the dart. Fig. 2 is a detail perspectiveview of the sling. Fig,v 3 is a similar View of the dart.
The dart 1 in` accordance with my invention has the head 2 and the shaft 3. The head is provided at its front end with a a radially projecting stud 5. rihe rear end of the shaft is split and is provided with a vane or feather `6, to direct the dart in a straight line.
Y The sling comprises the handle 7, elastic 8, and a link 9'. The handle is made of a.
single piece of wire andis provided at its upper end with an eye 10. The lower end ot' the handle is doubled and bent to form a hand hold 1 1, the terminal of the wire forming the handle being twisted, together with that part of the handle immediately above the hand hold, as :11312, thus strengthening the constrmttion of the handle. The elastic 8 is preferably, and is here shown as a rubber band or ring which is engaged with the eye 10. The elastic band or ring is also engaged by an eye 13 at the front end oit the link' 9. The said link is also provided at its rear end with an eye 1.4 for engagement with the stud 5, of the head of the `dart so as and is :provided on one side with' to connect the dart to the link and hence to the sling and enable the dart 'to be drawn back from the handle so as to stretch the elastic.
W'hen the dart is released the elastic shoots the dart and as the dart passes over the handle the link 9 becomes detached from the stud. Theeyes 13, 14 at the front and rear end of the link@ are oid-set from the intermediate portion 15 ofthe link so that they will lie closely against the side of the head of the dart provided With the stud 5, t0 facilitate the engagement of the eye 14 with the said stud. As soon as the eye 14 has thus beenengaged With the stud, thelink is kept with the eye in engagement with the stud by the tension of the elastic.
It will be understood that any suitable spring may in practice be substituted Yfor the elastic herein specifically described, Within the scope of my invention, and it will alsov be understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the various parts Within the scope of the 'appended claim.
I claim v In combination With a dartl having a head provided with a stud projecting from on'e side thereof, a sling comprising a handle, an elastic connected to the handle and a link connected to the elastic, the link being providedat its ends with eyes ott-set therefrom, and lying in a common plane, one of the eyes being connected to the elastic, the other being adapted for engagement with the stud ot the dart,'so that when the dart is-con nected to the sling the eyes'of the link bear on one side of the head of the dart.
In testlmony whereot I hereunto ailiX my s1 gnature 1n the presence of two Witnesses.
