To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED I-I. Nnr'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rialto, in the county of San Bernardino and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Holders," of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in door holding devices, and the primary.

object of the invention is to produce a de vice of this character which may be easily and quickly brought into operation so as to sustain the door in any desired position, and which further provides means whereby the door securing device may be raised out of contact with the floor and sustained in said raised position.

With the above, and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a door showing the device applied thereon and preventing the movement of the door. Fig. 2 is a similar view but illustrating the device arranged so as to allow the swinging movement of the door. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the rack bar. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the securing rod showing the foot attachment in section. Fig. 5 is a similar view of one of the flexible clips.

In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates the door. This door 1 has connected therewith at spaced intervals flexible clips 2. The clips 2 are preferably formed of a single strand of resilient material comprising a circular body 3 having its ends disposed in opposite directions to provide the feet 4:, and the said feet each have suitable openings adapted for the reception of securing elements 5. The clips 2 are each adapted to surround and tightly engage a securing rod 6. This securing rod may be constructed of any suitable material, but has its upper end resilient and bent upon itself to form the loop 7 from which extends the operating handle 8 having one of its ends provided with a dog 9. By constructing the clips 2 of flexible material, it will be understood that the body 3 tightly engages the rod 6, and when it is desired to adjust the said clips upon the securing bar or rod 6 it is merely necessary to tighten the loop 3 and spread the arms 4 so that the securing elements 5 will sustain the loop in a congested or a smaller area.

The lower end of the rod 6 may be threaded as indicated by the numeral 10,

and secured to this threaded portion is a foot 11, the latter being preferably constructed of rubber, but may be formed of any other suitable material. The foot 11 may have its under face serrated or smooth as desired.

The numeral 12 designates the rack bar for the rod. This rack bar 12 has its inner face 13 smooth and'its extremity provided with suitable openings adapted for the reception of retaining elements 14. The outer face of the said bar is provided with teeth 15, and these teeth are adapted to lie in close proximity with the dog or ofiset 9 provided by the handle 8.

From the above description, taken in con nection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and mode of operation should be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, it being noted that by a downward pressure upon the handle 8, the loop 7 will be drawn away from the teeth 15 of the rack bar 12 so that either an upward or downward movement of the securing rod 6 may be easily effected and the foot 11 may be brought into contact with the floor or away from contact thereof as desired. It will be further noted that when pressure upon the handle member 8 is relieved the resilient loop 7 will force the dog 9 into tight engagement with any of the teeth 15.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a holding device for doors, spaced flexible clips secured upon the door, a rod tightly engaged by the clips, said rod having its lower end threaded, a foot for said threaded portion, a rack bar upon the door, a handle member integrally formed with the rod and having one of its ends provided with a tooth adapted to normally engage one of the teeth of the rack bar.

A door holding device, said device comprising a rod member having one of its ends constructed of resilient material and bent to form a loop, and an integral handle for the loop, said handle having one of its ends formed with a dog, flexible clips engaging the rod and secured to the door, a foot upon the lower portion of the rod, and

a rack bar secured to the door and adapted to be normally engaged by the dog upon the handle.

In a holding device for doors, a vertically movable rod a foot upon the rod, flexible clips surrounding the rod and connected With the door, said clips being each constructed of a single strand of resilient material and providing a looped body portion and oppositely disposed arms provided with sustalning elements, the upper portion of the slidable rod being formed of resilient material, the said upper portion being looped and having its extremity provided With a handle having its inner face provided With a projecting portion, a rack bar secured upon the door, and the inner projecting portion of the handle adapted to engage between the teeth of the rack bar.
