To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH LEWIS vBRAN- sTETTER, citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis city and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Upright Conveyers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in conveyers, and particularly to upright conveyers, and has for an object the arrangement of means by which merchandise may be raised and transported froma lower position to a higher position.
Another object of the invention is the arrangement of a tube removably secured in position in which is positioned an elevating tube adapted to raise merchandise upon the rotation thereof.
A further object of the invention is the arrangement of a bracket arranged to be detachably secured in position for detach-y ably supporting a member adapted to elevate merchandise.
With these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: the figure is a side elevation of the elevating mechanism, shown in position, certain parts being broken away to disclose the invention.
Referring to the accompanyingdrawings by numerals, 1 indicates a receptacle of any kind, as for instance a barrel or box, into which is placed a tube 2 in which a screw 3 is placed that acts as a conveying member. The tube 2 is placed through any desired kind of opening in box 1 and is designed to have the lower end thereof rest against or in the merchandise, as for instance granular matter, located in the box 1. The tube 2 has a reduced portion 4 at its upper end, and is also closed at its upper end, except for an opening through which shaft 5 passes. At the lower end tube 2 is open, and has secured thereto a spider or shaft support 6 in which is formed a recess carrying a ball 7 against which the end of shaft 5 rests. When the tube 2 is placed in the box the spider 6 is forced into the merchandise therein, and preferably some 'of the lower end of the tube 2, so as to give the screw 3 ample opportunity for engaging the merchandise in the box when rotating. Upon the continuous rotation of screw 3 the matter engaged thereby will be forced upward and finally out of spout 8. Screw 3 '1s rigidly secured to shaft 5 which is journaled in spider 6 and in a cross bar 9 secured to uprights 10 and 11. Shaft 5 projects through support or bar 9 and has secured thereto a gear 12 which meshes with gear 18 that has connected therewith a crank 14. Upon the rotation of crank 14 in the proper direction power will be conveyed to screw 3 for causing the same to elevate merchandise from box 1 and discharge the same out of spout 8 as the top of tube 2 is closed.
In order to properly hold the tube 2 in position, and also to hold the same at various heights as may be desired, brackets as 15 and 16 are secured thereto and bent with offset portions that extend downward along the side of the box and have secured thereto a floor or support 17 at the lower end thereof for supporting a receptacle of any desired kind. A pair of set screws 18 and 19 are passed through brackets 15 and 16 and engage box 1 for holding tube 2 at any desired height.
By the construction and arrangement set forth means are provided foi` quickly elevating any desired merchandise in bulk, the means being arranged to be easily transferable from one box to another, or from one bin to another.
Vhat I claim is:
In a device of the character described, a tube, a lifting device mounted therein, a bracket secured to the tube and consisting of a member secured to the tube and having a right angled portion projecting therefrom arranged to support the tube on the top ofthe receptacle, and a downwardly projecting member extending parallel with the tube and arranged to be secured to one side of the receptacle for the purpose of holding the tube therein, and a shelf carried by the downwardly projecting member.
