DISPENSING DEVICE.
Application led December 20, 1909. Serial No. 534,112.
p To all wwm 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES NEMETHI, a
p citizen of the United States, residing at Los useful Improvements in Dispensing Devices,
Y ing, 1 represents the body of thev device' Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dispensing devices embodying a magazine in whlch a quantity of the articles to be dispensed are placed, and comprising a device 'of improved form for permitting the articles to be delivered from the magazine for use.V The device is particularly useful for dispensing drinking straws at a soda fountain, and the delivery mechanism of the device is lcon-l structed with the speci-al object of keeping the straws in parallel arrangement and preventing the straws from choking the delivery chute.
r@The invention consists in the construction vice taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. This shows the parts of the device in their normal position or relation. Fig. 4 is a vertic al section taken at one sidey of the device showing it in operation and indicating the way in which the articles are delivered. l
Referring more particularly to the drawwhich is in the form of a magazine having metal end walls 2 and side plates 3 of glass 0r similar material held in position by thev end walls as indicated. On the side of the magazine longitudinallyextending side bars 4 are formed beneath which delivery openings 5 are placed. The bottom 6 of the magazine comprises an inner plate 7 the edges of which are formed into u wardly and inwardly inclining anges 8. .xtend-v ing longitudinally inthe openings 5 delivery shelves 9 are provided. These shelves have bodies 'in the form of inclined. plates or doors 10 which rest near their upper edges against the upper edges of the openings 5 so as to close these openings as indicated. In addition to this, each delivery shelf presents an inwardly extending iange 11 which is disposed nearly at right angles to the Fig. 2 is a plan.`
plate l0. Atthe angle or meeting edge between the ange 11 and the plate 10 a spindle 12 is formed the ends of which are rotatably mounted in the end walls 2 of the spindle extends through the end wall and p is bent upwardly so as to form a thumb lever 13 for rotating the delivery shelf. These thumb levers 13 are arranged oppositelyI that is, one of them is disposed at the right end ofl the machine as viewed vin 'Figf l, whilel the other is disposed at the left end ofthe' device.' The edges of the flanges y1l are provided with inwardly and dowlr wardly extending fingers 14 the purpose of which will appear more fully hereinafter. Within the magazine and near the end Walls 2 bracket plates 15 are mounted in a transverse position, the lower ends of said bracket plates being providedwith flanges 1G which are secured to the bottom of the magazine as indicated. Between these -plates 15 and the end walls 2 springs 17 are attached which l are secured to the dispensing shelves 9 and hold the same so that they normally-close the openings 5 as will be readily understood. The bracket plates-15 present inclined edges 18 which form a meeting angle'19 substantially in the plane of the central axis of the magazine. Near their upper edges, the. plates 15 are provided with openings 20 which support a hinge bar 21 which extends longitudinally of the magazine in the lower part thereof as shown most clearly in Fig. l2. On this hinge bar 21 feed frames 22 are Ymounted. Each 'of these feed frames comprise arms 23 which form eyes 24 around the hinge bar from which they extend transversely of the body. At the outer ends of these arms 23 feedbars 25' are rigidly atof elongated plates v26, the extremities of which are normally supported on the edges 18 of the bracket plates. of each plate 26, a downwardly extending chute plate 27 is formed which is normally disposed in a substantially vertical plane as indicated in Fi 3. The lower edge of this chute plate 27 1s formed with 'an inwardly and downwardly extending flange 28. Between the chute plate 27 and the bar 4 at each side of the magazine, a' narrow feed chute' is formed and the straws 29 are adapted to descend into the chute as indicated. vOn the inner sides of the bars 4 guards 30 'rn onion.,
magazine. At one end of the magazine this 'f On the lower edge are formed of substantially triangular cross section which extend longitudinally of the magazine, and having inclined lower faces.
at the bottom of the feed chute will roll down the plate l() on to the holder 6a. As this rotation takes place the fingers 14 move upwardly on the interiorand engage the flanges 28 so as to elevate the feed frames toward the position indicated. In this way these fingers close off the upper part of the chute so as to prevent any of the straws from descending and they also agitate the bodyof straws so as to Vfacilitate the feed and straighten them with respect to each other. In this connection it should be understood that the feed frames 22 are loosely mounted on the hinge rod 21 so that they can be raised freely by the fingers 14 of the delivery shelves.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: A
l. In a device ofthe class described, -in combination, a magazine having a. delivery opening in the wall thereof, bracket plates mounted within said magazine and Vhaving inclined edges, a feed frame supported on `plates being disposed near the end walls of said magazine, and springs disposed between said bracket plates and said end walls and connected with said deliveryshelf to keep Vsaid delivery opening normally closed.
2. In a device of the class described, in combination, a magazine having a pair of o-ppositely disposed walls with delivery opening formed therein, a hinge 'rod extending longitudinally of said magazine, feed frames having hinged connectionA with said hinge rod and inclining downwardly in the direction of said delivery openings, means for delivering articles one by one from said delivery openings, and automatic means for elevating the outer edges of said feed frames to accelerate the feeding movement.
In wit-ness that I claim the foregoing I .have hereunto subscribed my name this 11th day of December, 1909.
CHARLES NEMETI-II.
