Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 23, 1911; i
" Application filed November 5, 1910. Serial No. 590,937.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOPHIA ALLINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ridgway, in the county of Elk and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful VVindow-Chair; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Themvention relates to ,a window chair, and has for its ob ect to provlde an unproved device adapted to be hung against the interior of a window, so that a window washer may safely and conveniently sit on said chair, while washing the outside of a window.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in-the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in, the appended claims.
In the dra wings :-ligure l is aperspec tive view of a window chair. constructed in accordance with this inventiomand shown applied to a window. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the chair, showing the same when compactly folded. l ig. 4 is a sectional view on line *l---ft of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan view of a portion of the under side of said chair. Fig. (i is a sectional view of a modified form of the invention,
.licjlerring to the drawings, it designates the seat of a chair, which is provided with a removable cushion 3. (in each side of the under face oi the seat is a transverse.in'clnber 33, which is rigidly secured thereto. liach oi the members 3 is pivotally connected with an arm l, which is mounted on a pivot 5. The upper portion ot the member 4 is rigidlyconnected with a back (3. The arms t are braced with L-shaped metallic members 7, through which the pivot 5 oktends.
\Vhen the chair is braced in an operative position, the lower end of tho armor mom her 4 abuts against theoutcr wall 8 of the house, oi. which the. windows arefbeing of the members 3 are washed. The arm 4 is screw 9, which is inserte in a slot 10 of the bracing .member 11. The/upper end. of the bracing member is pivotally connected to the transverse member 3, as at 12. When it is desired to store the chair away, the
slot 10 can be disconnected from the screw 9, and the parts folded, as shown at Fig. 3 of the drawings. The inner ends ofthe transverse members 3 are L-shaped,as shown as 13, the downwardly projecting portions 14 of which engage the window sill, which prevent the chair from pulling through the window. The L-shaped portion is provided with a metallic strip 15 for bracing the same. In Figz'G of the drawings, the metallic strip 15 has an extension 16, which more firmly braces the end where thestrain is severest,
In order to prevent the chair from bruis-- ing or scarring he window sill, a felt lining 17 is provided. The L-shaped portions 13 provided with laterally extending projections 18, which engage the sides of the window frame, so as to prevent the-L-shaped portions of the members 3 from being pulled through the window opening, incase the L-shaped poltion of the members 3 happen to rise.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed .is
l. A window chair, comprising a seat,
transverse members connected with each end or said seat, a pivot rod penetratn'lg through said transverse members, said transverse members terminating at their inner ends into L-shaped portions, said L-shapedport1ons having lateral 1)I0 ]CtlO1lS,'& back pivoted upon said pivotrod and provided with dowmvardly extending arms, L-sliapedme tallic. plates fitted on said arms, with the 'pivot rod extendingihrongh them, braces provided with slots, means carried by said arms for engaging said slots, said braces being pivoted to. said transverse members, substantially as specified. 2. A window chair'of the class described,
0 comprising a .seat, transverse members con-- nected with cacti-end of said seat, a back having downwardly projecting arms, L-'
shaped metallic platias 'rigi'dly connected dprovided with with said arms, a pivot rod extendin I In testimony whereof I have signed my through said transverse members, arms and name to this specification in the presence of L-shaped plates, braces provided with slots, 1 two subscribing Witnesses.
means carried by said arms for engaging SOPHIA ALLINGER.
': said slots, said braces being pivoted to said Witnesses:
transverse members, substantially as and for G120. R. DIXON, the purpose described. G. F. GREINER.
