Be it known that I, JULIUS VoLk, a citizen I of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Folding Nindow-Scaifolds, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to improvements in portable folding window scaffolds, the object of my invention being to construct a light and strong scaffold primarily designed for window cleaners use, there being a movable seat and a back rest for the window cleaner and the parts of which fold when not in use so as to occupy a minimum of space.

For the above purposes my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional View illustrating my improved scaifold as in use; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the complete scaffold; Fig. 3 is a sectional plan of the scafiold taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, the scaffold being removed from the window; Fig. 4 is a vertical, sectional elevation taken on the line 1- 1 of Fig. 3, parts of the supporting arms being broken away; and Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the complete scaffold in a folded condition.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing: 1 and 2 designate the side arms of the frame which are preferably of angle iron the inner ends of which are provided with integral hooks 3.

4t designates an angle iron having integral perforated ears 5 at its ends to which the arms 1 and 2 are pivotally secured.

66 designate extensions of the arms 1 and 2 at their outer ends, to which extensions the supporting arms 7 are secured. At the lower end of each arm 7 there is an eye 8 through which is inserted an adjusting screw 9 having bearing plates 10 and there being lock nuts 11 for holding the screw in any desired adjustment.

l2 designates a back rest which is sup ported in a plane some considerable distance above the part 4 by the supports 13 which are secured to the part 4 adjacent its longitudinal center and to the ends of the back rest 12. Adjacent each upper end of the supports 13 is an integral, perforated car 1 1. The back rest is additionally supported by the uprights 15 which are secured to the arms 1 and 2 and to the supporting arms 7, there being perforated cars 16 at the upper ends of the uprights 15 which are pivotally secured to the perforated ears lt on the supports 13 of the back rest.

18 designates a movable seat hingedly connected to the part at in any suitable manner. The seat, when in a working position, is supported by its ends resting on the horizontal portions of the angle iron arms 1 and 2.

As shown in Fig. 5, when the scaffold is not in use and in a folded condition, the seat 18 occupies a position parallel with the supports 13 and the arms 1 and 2, together with the extensions 6, supporting arms 7, uprights 15 and struts 17, are folded to approximately parallel the back rest and the seat, thereby occupying a minimum of space.

Fig. 1 illustrates the scafiold in position for use with the hooks 3 in engagement with the window sill and the plates carried by the supporting arms 7 in engagement with the outer face of the wall, thereby firmly holding the seat and back rest in position within a window. By reason of the adjusting screws 9 the scaffold may be employed in connection with windows through walls of different thickness, and by reason of the locking nuts the adjusting screw may be firmly held in any desired adjustment.

I claim:

1. In a folding window scaffold, hooked arms, a frame member pivotally connecting the arms, a back rest supported from said frame member, struts connecting said arms and back rest, supporting arms connected with the outer ends of the hooked arms for engagement with the outer face of the building wall and a seat hingedly connected with the frame member connecting the hooked arms.

2. In a folding portable window scaffold, a frame member a seat hingedly secured to said frame member, a back rest supported by said frame member, arms having hooks pivotally secured to said frame member and said back rest, and supporting arms for engagement with the outer face of the wall of the building connected with said arms having hooks.

3. In a portable folding window scaffold, an angular frame member having an integral car at each of its ends, a seat hingedly secured to said frame member, angular arms each of which is provided with an integral hook at its inner end and at its opposite end pivotally secured to one of said ears, a back rest, supports connecting the angular frame member and the back rest, integral ears carried by the back rest adjacent its ends, supporting arms rigidly secured at a acute angle relative the arms having the hooks, screws carried by the lower ends of said supporting arms, a vertically disposed. member connecting each supporting arm with the back rest, ears formed at the tops of said last mentioned supporting arms, bolts connecting the perforated ears of said uprights with the perforated ears on the back rest and struts connecting said uprights with the arms having the hooks, all of which parts are arranged in such manner as that the seat may be folded upwardly and the remaining parts swung to their pivots to occupy positions approximately paralleling each other.
