SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 539,200, dated May 14, 1895.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT STRUB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Falls, in the county of Beaver and State of useful Improvements in Adjustable Window- Scaffolds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to'the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, durable, and effective scaffold which may be readily adjusted to a window frame, on a plane with the sill thereof, to afford a support for a person engaged in cleaning the outside of the window.

A special object of the'invention is to provide simple and safe means for securing the scaffold in place to prevent vibration or looseness, and provide a firm and reliable support.

With these objects in view, the invention consists in the certain novel construction, and arrangement of parts as will be fully described hereinafter.

In the accompanying'drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved support applied in the operative position. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear view of one of the bars arranged vertically at the inside of the window. Fig. 4 is a plan view of a modification.

The essential features of my invention or improved support, are the horizontal supporting arms A, which carry the floor or plat at the outer angles of the platform and are connected at their upper ends by a hand rail, D, beneath which and between the uprights a wire screen or netting may be arranged, or several parallel bars as shown on the drawings may be used for the same purpose, and the inclinedbraces F, capable of being folded together, and the bracing cables or chains G, attached in a suitable manner to the frame of the window. The supporting arms are made of a suflicient length to extend inward, over the sill of the window, and to conform to the general shape of the moldings, at the A, to the floor beneath. The supporting arms A, are also provided with sliding blocks or catches K, for the purpose of preventing the platform from moving inward, and are fixed in position by set screws K These blocks are adjustable on the supporting-arms, whereby they may be arranged to engage with the arms at any point. The platform'is provided with depending brackets L, to engage with the outer edge of the window-sill, and wall of the building, said brackets being inthe form of angle-irons, and are secured to the platform by means of screws.

The guard which is composed of the handrail, and uprights, is arranged at the outer edge of the platform to prevent accident, the inclined braces F, being employed to hold the guard in position, and the said uprights hinged to the bars A, in amanner that the same may be folded to occupy but little space.

The braces F, are secured loosely to the uprights and when released at their lower ends, may be revolved to lie close or parallel with the hand-rail.

The bracing cables, or chains, are secured, permanently, at their outer ends to the upper ends of the uprights, and are provided at their inner ends with suitable retaining devices, to engage hooks or detents on the window frames.

The window scaffold, as described may be easily and quickly adjusted to the frame of the window, without the use of tools or accessory appliances, thus providing a firm and safe support, the application of the scaffold being accomplished without'defacing or 0th erwise injuring the finish of the wood work, or the walls of the building. 7 Attached to the brace F, is a wash or scrub bucket, together with all the necessary appliances for properly washing the windows. This platform may be used for cleaning the windows or painting the same, was a platform for flower pots, and many other useful objects.

At Fig. 3, onth'e drawings I" have-shown a slightmodification of my improvement, which consists in having the inner ends of the supporting-bars A, bent to engage with the vertical sides of the window-frame, and locked in that position by means of adjustable blocks R, each of which is provided with a set-screw, by means of which the said blocks are attached in position.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A Window scaffold having supporting arms to engage with the window-frame, provided with engaging pieces to bear against the inside moldings, and extend to the floor below, and adjustable catches or blocks to engage With the window sill, as and for the purpose described.

2. A window scaffold having supporting arms provided with engaging pieces extendin g to and secured to the floor and wash board, and curved to conform to the face of the inside moldings, combined with adjustable pieces to engage with the window sill to prevent inward movement of the same, as described.
