DEVICE FOR REMOVING WALL-PAPER.
To all 'La-7mm it may concem:
Be it known that I, GUSTV AYnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tashington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Removing Tall-Paper, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in means for detaching paper or other coverings from walls, and it consists in the constructions, combinations and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide an improved device constructed to cause positive impingement of a series of rapidlyfiowing steam jets over the entire area of paper under treatment, thereby insuring a thorough and uniform moistening of the adhesive backing with a minimum consumption of steam.
A further obj ect of my invention is to provide a compact and durable device for removing wall paper from position in a cleanly and aseptic manner.
My improved construction operates very efiiciently in practice, and overcomes the defects of previous constructions in which a large portion of the steam is not positively directed against the paper under treatment and is condensed without eficient action, with a resultant steam waste and incomplete and irregular moistening of the adhesive backing.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application and in which similar reference numerals indicate corresponding parts in the several views: Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly broken away, illustrating one embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the construction shown in Fig. 1, with a portion of the nozzle partition removed, a-ndDFig. 8 is an enlarged plan of the supply nozzle shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a lcasing provided with an open front for engaging a section of the wall paper to be removed. The bottom wall of the casing comprises two plates 2 which incline upwardly both in a forward and lateral direction to provide a depressed medial portion, through Specification of Letters Patent.

which leads a fluid-supply pipe 8. A supply nozzle 4: is shown secured to the bottom plates 2 coaxially with the supply pipe 3, and provided with apertures 5 extending to the upper surface of said plates. The steam supply through the pipe 3 and nozzle 4 can be conveniently Controlled by any suitable valve 6, actuated by a link 7 and a lever 8 pivoted on the casing handle 9. A partition 10 is spaced within the casing 1 to provide a recessed front, and carries a series of expanding nozzles 11 constructed to directthe steam at high velocity in a series of overlapping jets against the wall. paper; thereby insuring a thorough and uniform penetration of the entire area of said paper. The partition 10 terminates at 12 slightly above the middle portion of the inclined bottom plates 2, to permitthe free passage of any condensed steam not absorbed by the wall paper; such condensation being directed by the plates 2 to the nozzle apertures 5, where itencounters the incoming steam and is directed by an injector action to the casing 1 and nozzles 11.
I have illustrated preferred constructions, but changes could be made within the spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim:
1. In a device of the Character described, the combination of a casing having an open front to engage a wall, a partition therein spaced from the front and carrying a plurality of expanding nozzles for directing a fluid at high velocity in a series of overlapping jets against the wall, and means for supplying fiuid under pressure to said cas- 1n0f.
2. In a device of the Character described, the combination of a casing formed with a bottom wall inclined upward both forwardly and laterally from its medial portion, a partition spaced from the front of said casing and terminating above the middle portion of the bot-tom wall thereof, a series of ex` panding nozzles in said partition, and a fluid-supply pipe communicating with the lowest portion of said inclined bottom wall.
3. In a device of the Character described, the combination of a casing formed with a bottom wall inclined upward both forwardly in presence of two Wtnesses.
GUSTAV AYRES.
and laterally from its medial portion, a partition spaced from the front of said casing and terminating above the middle portion of the bottom wall thereof, a series of expanding nozzles in said partition, a fluid-supply pipe communicating With the lowest portion of said inclined bottom Wall, and a supply nozzle supported on said inclined bottom VVitnesses A. B. CHINN, H. P. CARTER.
