BUFFING-BRUSH FOR BRONZING, GILDING, AND THE LIKE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD MCGINTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Doylestown, in the county of Bucks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Bufling-Brush for Bronzing, Gilding, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a buffing brush designed particularly for the use of printers in depositing and rubbing bronze, gilt or other metallic powder on type or figures which are to be coated with such powder.
By my improvements there is provided an inexpensive and durable brush which can be changed readily and will retain without loss a store of powder, while in operation the powder can be fed at the desired rate, distributed and brushed upon the characters to be coated without the usual waste.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a brush embodying my improvernents.
The brush comprises a body 1 having a fur coating 2 secured to the bottom surface thereof for buffing the powdered surfaces. A chamber 3 is formed in and extends downwardly from the top of the body, and a contracted outlet or passage 1 extends from the bottom of the chamber through the fur coating. A screen 5, of fine mesh, is placed on the bottom of the chamber and covers the outlet, to sift and disseminate powder passing from the chamber through the outlet to the surface to be coated.
A coupling 6, with a passage 7 therethrough, is provided with a plain hub 8 which fits in the chamber 3, a flange 9 which is fixed to the body 1 and a threaded hub 10. A metal cup 11, for holding a store of the powder, is provided with the resilient member 11 and the threaded neck 12 which is screwed on the hub 10, the cup being removable and thereby refillable.

The passage 7, which connects the cup 11 with the chamber 3, is controlled by a valve comprising a rod 13 disposed in the body 1 with a threaded engagement let in the hub 8 and a head 15 on the outer end thereof, the inner end of the rod being movable across the passage 7 to close it or regulate the flow therethrough.
When the device is not in use the valve is closed and the store of powder in the cup is sealed, being cut off from the body of the brush. When the device is in use the valve is opened to the extent required for passing the desired amount of powder which is ejected by pressing upon the bottom and is disseminated by the screen, with more satisfactory distribution and greater economy of material than has been usual.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A brush comprising a body, a chamber, a coupling having a hub fitted in said chamber and a flange connected to said body, a cup having a threaded connection with said coupling, said coupling having a passage connecting said cup and chamber, and a valve having a threaded connection with said hub for controlling said passage.
2. A brush comprising a body having a butting member, a chamber having an outlet, a screen controlling said outlet, a coupling having a hub seated in said chamber and a threaded hub, a cup having a threaded neck engaging said threaded hub, a passage through said coupling from said cup to said chamber, and a rod having a threaded connection with said coupling for controlling said passage.
