Description

E. J. SICK.
FOUNTAIN BRUSH. APPLICATION mum we. so, 1910.
- Patented May 9, 1911.
Edgar $457621 Gum UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDGAR J'. SICK, OF DUSHORE, PENNSYLVANIA.
FOUNTAIN-BRUSH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR J. SICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dushore, in the county of Sullivan and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fountain brushes and more particularly to fountain blackening brushes, the object being to provide a blackening brush which will have means to feed a blackening fluid to the bristles thereof so that it may be readily applied to the shoes without soiling the hands and in an economical manner.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a fountain brush of this type which will have a plurality of distributing nozzles all open to the supply tank and a valverfor simultaneously controlling all of the ports to the discharge nozzle.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation. longitudinal sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 represents the back of the brush and 2 the bristles thereof which are separated at suitable points to permit the passage of the discharge nipples 3 which communicate with the supply tank 4 secured in any suit-able manner upon the back. A yoke-shaped handle 5 is provided and the tank has a supply opening closed by a screw cap 6.
Suitable packing cylinders 7 extend up Fig. 2 is a from each end of the tank immediately below the handle 5 and have assing therethrough the yoke-shaped va ve operating lever 8. This lever is connected through Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 30, 1910.

links 9 to the eyes 10 which are mounted on opposite ends of the valve 11. A packing 12 is secured upon the bottom of the valve and a spring 13 holds the valve and the packingover the ports leading to the discharge nozzles. By pulling up on the yokeshaped lever 8, the valve is lifted off of all of the ports simultaneously so that each portion of the brush is fed with a suitable quantity of the blackening fluid at the same time. The valve practically fits the interior of the cylinder as shown so as to prevent wabbling when the spring 13 is centrally mounted.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- A fountain brush comprising a brush back having bristles secured thereto and a plurality of apertures passing through the same, of a supply tank secured to the back, nozzles carried by the tank, and projecting through the apertures in the back, a yoke shaped manipulating handle carried by the tank, a valve plate mounted in and substantially fitted to the interior of the tank, a central spring wedge between the tank and valve plate for normally holding the same in position to close the nozzles, a yoke shaped lever arranged beneath and lying parallel with the handle and pivotally connected to opposite sides of the valve plate for bodily raising the same whereby all of the parts are simultaneously uncovered, and packing glands secured to the tank for receiving the separate legs of the lever.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
