Be it known that I, VREN I-IENDRICKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bolivar, in the county of Polk and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lap-Robe Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in lap robe attachments and has for its object the provision of a device of this character wherein a lap robe may be securely locked to a vehicle in such manner that loss of the lap robe will be positively prevented.

Another object is the provision of a construction whereby the ordinary usage to which the lap robe is subjected during driving will not be prevented when the attachment is applied thereto and the lap robe locked.

With these and other objects in view, which will more fully hereinafter appear, the present invention consists in certain novel details of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of the device may be made within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacriiicing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of the specification z-Figure 1 is a plan view of a vehicle and showing a lap robe and my improved device applied thereto and locked to the foot board of the vehicle. Fig. 2 is a fragment of one corner of a lap robe and showing one of the plates and the keeper applied to one face of the robe. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the reverse face of the lap robe. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the device and also showing an end elevation of one corner of a lap robe and the device applied thereto.

Similar numerals of reference are eniployed to designate corresponding parts throughout.

The lap robe is designated by the numeral 5 and the foot piece to which the lap robe is secured in a manner to be presently described is designated at 6. While I have shown the device secured to a foot piece it must be understood, however, that I am not to be limited to this specific manner of securing the lap robe since it will be understood that what will appear later that the robe may be equally as well secured to the seat side or other convenient portion on the body of the vehicle.

vIn carrying out my invention, I arrange at the lower corners of the lap robe and on the opposite faces of the latter a pair of metallic plates designated by the numerals 7 and 8. These plates are fixedly secured to the robe by means of rivets 9 passing therethrough and also through the robe. Fixedly secured to one of the plates is one end of a hasp. The hasp is designated in general by the numeral 10 and is a jointed structure, one of its ends being liXedly secured to the plate 8, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The free terminal of the secured end portion extends considerably in advance of the edge of the robe and its intermediate portion has a hinge joint 11, while its free end is hingedly united with a section 12. The free end portion of the section 12 is provided with an oblong opening 13. Secured to the plate 7 or that opposite to the plate 8 to which one end of the hasp is secured is a keeper 14. The keeper 14 is preferably formed of a single piece of wire bent into substantially a U- shape with its terminals fixedly secured to a plate 15 which is riveted or otherwise secured to the plate 7. The opening 13 is of a size to nicely receive the keeper 14 and when the parts are thus positioned, that is to say, when the keeper 14 extends through the openings 13 a suitable pad lock 16 is employed to engage with the keeper 14 and prevent `outward movement of the section 12 thereon.

By the provision of the jointed hasp, it will be evident that when the pad lock is removed from the keeper that the hasp may be readily detached from the foot piece 6 shown in Fig. 1, and it will be further observed that when positioning the lap robe by virtue of the joint between the sections of the hasp that the section 12 may be readily passed around the foot piece 6.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a device which is comparatively simple in structure, inexpensive to manufacture and which may be readily applied to most forms of lap robes now in use.
