witnesses: Inventor:
UNITED STATEQ PATENT ()FFICE.
MERIT'I L. DOLLAR, OF WIGI-IITA, KANSAS.
HOOD-VENT FOR WATER-GIlOSETS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MERITT L. DOLLAR, a resident of Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hood-Vents for Water-Closets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to water closet bowls, and has for its object the production of a hood provided with a vent to carry ofl' odors and gases, which will greatly promote sanitation. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the specification and succinctly defined in the appended claim.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my hood vent made of any suitable material (preferably of sheet steel), and attached to the bowls now in use. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a modified form, showing the hood made in sections and the method of joining said sections together so it can be folded 1nto a small space, if desired.
Fig. 1 illustrates my hood formed in three sections, 6, 7 and 8, and made of any suitable material (preferably sheet steel) being provided with a rim, 9, which is pierced Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 11, 1910.
Patented Apr. 25, 1911.
Serial No. 571,450.
fastening screws 18. In the top of the hood is secured to the bowl rim, 12, which rim is attached to a cleat 11, with hinges 13; said cleat being secured to the bowl 2 with fastening screws 18. In the top of the hood is afliXed a short tube 4, to which is hinged several joints of pipe, when in a normal position are zig-Zag, and connect the tube 4 to the eXit pipe 14:. The object of this pivoted pipe is to allow the hood to swing down when the wooden rim is turned up.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional rim of a moditied form of the hood, which is shown in Fig. 1 and is of the folding type, showing a saddle joint connection.
What I claim is- In a hood vent attachment for water closets, a bowl, a wooden rim to fit the top thereof, and hinged to a cleat, secured to said bowl, a hood secured to said rim, a vent tube in the top of the hood and several sections of tubes hinged together and connecting the vent tube and the exit pipe.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
