SANITARY CUSPIDOR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID ST. CYR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Winnebago, in the county of Thurston and State of Nebraska,having invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Cuspidors,

do declare the following to be a full, clear,

and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in ouspidors and has for its object the pro vision of a cuspidor more sanitary in construction and cleanly in general use than the ordinary kind. Provision is made for cleansing the cuspidor by flushing it with water either continuously or at intervals without its removal or the necessity of handling.

The article is of the stationary kind secured to the floor, and is especially suited for public places such as hotels, halls, theaters and other similar buildings, butmay be adapted for use in any connection where such a device is needed.

I have illustrated the invention in the accompanying drawing in which the figure is a view of the invention partly in elevation and partly in cross-section, some of the parts being broken away to show parts underneath.

In the drawing A is the base or body of the cuspidor resting on a plate B which rests on the floor. The cuspidor flares outwardly at the top in the usual manner, forming a receptacle C. Inclosin-g the body and the top part is a rim D secured to the floor E by brackets F. The body of the cuspidor is open at the bottom and the floor has a corresponding opening leading into a waste pipe G fitted into the floor and having a flaring top connection H.

Directly over the body of the cuspidor and above the opening into the floor a cleansing pipe or stack I is supported centrally with reference to the top C and is of the same size as the body part. The stack is supported by braces a secured thereto and to the outer rim D. Theupper end of the stack is covered by a removable capJ. A water pipe K, adapted to be connected with the source stack to near the top and is connected to a circular pipe L secured to the inside of the stack. 1 The circular pipe is perforated, thev perforations opening on the outside of the of water'supply, leads upward through the stack through corresponding openings inthe stack, permitting the water to wash the outside ofzthe latter. A triangular shaped shield M is secured at its upper edge to the outside of the stack over the perforations and deflects the water against the stack, causing it to rundown the latter, and washing olf any expectoration or filth that accumulates. A pipe N leads from the pipe L, downto near the bottom of the stack where another circular pipe 0, perforated in like manner is attached, the perforations opening through the stack in like manner and'the water therefrom being adapted to cleanse the bottom of the stack and the base and sides of the cuspidor. The pipes K and N are shown extending above the circular pipe L in order that a pump may, if desired,

beattached to the upper end of the stack,

. Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,

1. The combination with a stationary cuspidor, a drain pipe underneath into which the same empties, of a stack supported above the body of the cuspidor, a water pipe leading from a source of water supply to the top of the stack, and means for flushing the stack and cuspidor, substantially as described.

2. The combination with a stationary cuspidor and a pipe underneath into which the cuspidor empties, of a stack I supported above the body of cuspidor, a water pipe leading from a source of water supply, and means for flushing the body of the cuspidor and the outside of the stack, substantially as cured t0 the floor and a drain pipe under-' neath the cuspidor into which the letter In testimony whereof I have hereunto empties, of a stack I supported above the affixed my name in the presence of two subdrain pipe, pipes leading from a source of scribing witnesses.
