FLUSHING CUSPIDOR.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 678,481, dated J' uly 16, 1901.

To all whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, HARRY G. GRUBBs, aA citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flushing Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in flushing cuspidors, and has for its object the provision of novel vmeans whereby the cuspidors are arranged.

The herein-described invention is particularly adapted to be used for public buildings; and it consists of a stationary cuspidor arranged in the floor of the building, the same being connected to a water-supply pipe and a waste-pipe.
The invention further consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspectiveview of a section of Hoor having arranged therein two'of myA improved cuspidors. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the annular pipe arranged in the interior of the cuspidor, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 indicates the floor of the building, and 2 the joists of the iioor. represents the body of the cuspidor, having at its upper extremity a flange 4, which is countersunk in the floor and so arranged as to be iiush with the same, the inner portion of said iiange overhanging the inner wall of the spittoon. The said cuspidor is further provided with an interior annular perforated pipe 5, connected to the supply-pipe 6 by means of the union 6' and nipple 6X, Fig. 3,
The reference-numeral 3 which latter supports the ring 5 at a location underneath and adjacent to said overhanging flange, with a slight space intervening between the ring and wall of the spittoon, the bottom of said cuspidor communicating with a waste-pipe 7. The annular perforated pipe 5 is arranged interiorly in the upper portion of the cuspidor below the annular ange 4L, and the perforations are so arranged as to be inclined downwardly in order that when l[iushing the cuspidor the sides of the same will be thoroughly cleansed and all debris .and other substances removed. A trap may `be arranged in said waste-pipe for the purpose of receivinglarge particles that may tend to clog the waste-pipe. The matter accumulating in said trap may be removed at any time.
From the abovedescription it is thought the detail operation of my improved cuspidor can be readily understood and a further description thereof unnecessary.
The many advantages obtained by the use of my improved cuspidor will be readily understood from the above description and reference to the accompanying drawings.
It will be notedgthatV various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from 'the general spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A flushing spittoon comprising the body portion having an annular iiange overhanging its inner wall and at the top thereof, a supply-pipe, a union mounted thereon, a hollow nipple secured to and communicating with said union, a hollow annular perforated ring supported by said nipple within the spittoon and adjacent to said flange with a slight space intervening between said ring and the inner wall of the spittoon, and the waste-pipe with which the lower portion of the spittoon is connected, as set forth.
