URINAL-SLAB.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK F. ROWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Urinal-Slabs, of which the following is a specilication.

My invention relates to urinals and particularly to a floor slab therefor adapted to be used either alone as a urinal or in conjunction with a back slab or with any other type of urinal.

In urinals as ordinarily constructed, the urinary droppings fall upon the Hoor beneath the urinal and thus a Very unsanitary condition arises.

Urinals have been constructed in which a floor slab is to be used, but in thesethe floor slab is made with an unbroken upper surface which is uniiushed and therefore is in many ways as bad from a sanitary point of view as a urinal without any floor slab would be.

In order to avoid the above recited objections, I have provided a floor slab consisting of a body of china, porcelain, cement,

' or other suitable material, the upper sur-` face of which at its forward endV 1s formed with aseries of ribs or corrugations upon Awhich the user stands. The rear of the slab is slinken and provided with an outlet, and

in conjunction with the series of ribs I provide means for flushing the grooves between the ribs. In conjunction with a floor slab as above constructed, I may also provide a Ventilating hood located near the floor of the slab but at its rear end and adapted to carry olf all foul odors. Further, the floor slab is so constructed that it may be applied in connection with a back slab having the usual flushing arrangements.

Referring to the drawings: Figure l is a perspective View of my improved floor slab used in conjunction with a back slab. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a modified form of floor slab. Fig. 4L is a longitudinal vertical section on the line 4?-4. Fig. 5 isr a fragmentary transverse section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3.

My slab consists of a base 2, which may be made of vitreous china, glazed or unglazed, porcelain, lire-clay, cement, 0r any suitable or desirable material. At its rear the slab is provided with an upwardly extending Specification of Letters Patent.

The rear is also provided with the forwardly projecting side flanges 3a, which are also rabbeted to form a joint with the side flanges of a back slab. Both sides of the slab are provided with the marginal upwardly extending flanges 5. The tubular bore S has a series of holes ll opening into spaces between the ribs 9. This tubular bore is adapted to be connected to any sourceof water supply and to this end may be provided with an internal tubular lining 11a provided with holes which will aline with the holes in the wall 7, this Abeing connected to a water supply pipe.

Vhile, the floor slab as above described mayV be used by itself as a urinal, I may also provide in conjunction therewith, the back slab 12 having the side walls 13. The side walls and back slab are rabbeted, as before referred to, having engagement with the rabbet-ed flanges of the base. The upper end of the back slab is provided with any suitable constant or intermittent flushing device whereby streams of water,` may be directed down the face of the back slab and drained off through the outlet 10 of thel floor slab. 14 designates a water inlet pipe for this purpose and 15 'a tubular header by which the water is directed along the face of the slab, this header being perforated. The

bore 8 may also vbe connected to any constant ror intermittent source of water supply so that the floor slab may be flushed inter# mittently or continuously.
