Description

THOMAS LEE. I Rain Water Cut offslPatentefiAprlHfi,I872, No.125,742. if
UNITED STATES THOMAS LEE, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN RAIN-WATER CUT-OFFS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,742, dated April 16, 1872.
I, THOMAS LEE, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a Rainater Out'Oft', of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
My invention relates to a peculialy-formed hinged and sliding spout for rain-water pipes of buildings, whereby the rain may be conducted into the cistern, or may be directed therefrom at will, so as to avoid soiling the contents of the cistern with the comparatively dirty washings of the roof at the commencement of a shower.
General Description with Reference to the Drawing.
the box B is an, opening, I), and hinged to said box, at or near the lower edges of said opening, is a spout, E whose outer edge, being depressed, as in Figs. 1 and 2, operates to discharge the effluences of the roof, or, being elevated and closed against the box, as in Fig. 3, operates to conduct them into the cistern. In order more eflectua-lly to accomplish this purpose, the rear or inner edge of said hinged spout has an upturned lip, e, andis connected by pivot F to a sliding section, G, which, in the open condition of the spout E, leads from pipe A into said spout, as in Figs. 1 and 2, and in the closed condition of said spout conducts the water directly downinto the cisternspout, as in Fig. 3.
C laim.
I claim as new and of my invention- The spout E, hinged at its center to the box B, and provided with a lip, e, in combination with the sliding tube G pivoted to the spout E and pipes A 0, all constructed, arranged, and operated as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
THOMAS LEE.
