To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it knoivn that We, GEORGE W. Davis and ABRAHAM T. SHIPMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Blossom and Honey Grove, respectively, in the counties of Lamar and Fannin, respectively, State ot Texas, have invented certain nev7 and useful Improvements in Fireproot Flues; and We do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.

This` invention is an improved thimblc for use in connection with the smoke pipe of a stove to enable the pipe to be extended through an opening` in a root and used Without danger ot setting tire to the root by the heat of the pipe, the said invention consisting in the pipe or flue having a thimble partially surrounding the same, spaced therefrom and provided With a bottom, .vhereby the thimble is enabled to contain a column of Water surrounding the flue, the thimble being further provided at its upper end With a funnel to cause the thimble to be lilled with rain Water as hereinafter described and claimed. .ln accordance vfith our invention the stove pipe or tiue l is provided at the point where the same extends through an opening in the roof A With an outer tubular casing or thimble 2, the thimble being adapted to pass through and lit the opening in the roof. The diameter of the thimble exceeds that oi. the stove pipe so that a space is formed betiveen themv and surrounding the pipe, the said thimble or casing being concentrically disposed ivith reference to the stove pipe and having a bottom 3, through which the stove pipe extends and which forms a Water-tight joint vwith the stove pipe so that the said thimble or casing is adapted to contain a quantity ot Water surrounding that portion of the pipe which extends through the roof. The space between the pipe and thimble thus forms an annular receptacle.

Hence the stove pipe or i'iue is lirmly secured in the tliimble or outer easing and there is no danger of its Working loose.

it Will be understood that by reason ot the provision of the viator jacket around that portion of the pipe or flue which extends through the root' all danger of igniting the roof by heat et the smoke pipe or flue is entirely obviated. ln the event that rain Water should be insutlicient at any season to keep the outer casing or thimble filled With Water, Water may be readily supplied to the same by means of a hose or otherwise, from time to time.l

Having thus described our invention, We claim -i device of the class described adapted to extend downwardly through the roof of a house, said device comprising a thimble open atits upper end, provided at its upper end With a tunnel and termed With an opening through its bot-tom; a smoke pipe-extending through t-he bottom of the thimble and up through and projecting above the upper end of the thimble, said smoke pipe being spaced from the sides of the thinible forming with the latter a receptacle adapted to contain a column ot' Water around the smoke pipe.r and radially disposed braces attached to the tunnel and also to the smoke pipe.
