Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 25, 1911.
Application filed May 31, 1910. Serial No. 564,115.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOI-IANN STooKINGEn, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Holzhauser, Post Ruhstorf a. Rott, Germany, have invented Improvements 1n Blotting-Pads, of which the followlng 1s a specification.
The subject of the present invention concerns improvements in blotting pads and relates more especially to a. blot-ting pad having a normally curved surface which can be laid fiat when the pad is not required for use.
In order that the invention may be fully understood reference is made to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 shows the pad in side elevation when ready for use. Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the curved surface laid flat. Fig. 3 is a plan while Fig. 4: shows the pad as seen from below.
Hinged to a rectangular plate 1, provided with a semi-circular recess On either of its longer sides, is a flexible plate 3 which is longer than the plate 1. The plate 3 is provided, near its free end, with a rectangular or other slot 4 adapted to receive one end of a piece of blotting paper, the other end of the paper being received by a slot 7 provided in a metal strip 8. The latter is revolubly pivoted on the plate 1 by means of the rubber or other clips 9, said plate 1 being provided on the underside with a suitable slot 2, while the end of the paper passing through slot 4: is secured by a suitable pin 6 carried on the inner side of the plate 3.
The method of application is as follows 2 Fig. 2 shows the device when not required for use. against the plate 1. When it is desired to use the pad the plate 8 is bent or curved so that its free end can be inserted in the groove 2. The provision of rubber clips 9 will prevent the blotting paper from becoming crumpled or torn, while the provision of semi-circular recesses in the longer sides of the plate 1 will enable the user to obtain abetter hold.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z- Improvements in blotting pads comprising in combination, a plate provided with semi-circular recesses on its longer sides, a flexible plate hinged thereto, said flexible plate having a slot for the reception of the blotting paper, a pin carried on the inner side of said plate, a metal strip provided with a slot .to receive the other end of the blotting paper, and rubber clips by which said metal strip is connected to the first mentioned plate, the latter having a groove for the reception of the free end of the flexible plate, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHANN STOOKINGER.
