T0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY E. RICHARD- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Desk Blotter-Pads and Calendars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a combined desk blotter pad and calendar, and more particularly to the class of deskpads having means for supporting one or more blotters and a detachable calendar.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a desk blotter pad with improved clips for removably holding a loose leaf calendar, each clip having a firm bearing at one lend on the blotter pad and a holding jaw forming a support for the turned leaves of the calendar.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings which disclose the preferred form of embodiment of the invention, and as brought out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings :--Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention with the cover partly broken away. Fig. 2 is an end elevation on a slightly enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 1 -4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one connecting means of the memorandum sheets.
Similar reference characters indicate c'orresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
In the drawings the numeral 8 designates a base board forming a blotting writing pad which may be of any desirable shape and material although it is preferably of cloth covered paste board. Disposed 'at suitable localities upon the base board 8, are corner pocket plaits each formed of a single sheet of metal cut to provide an L-shaped section 9, the same having bendable spurs 10, to engage in the base board and to secure thereto a triangular shaped piece 11, of flexible material forming the usual corner pocket, and in these pockets are received the corners of one or more sheets l2 of blotting paper.
Arranged upon the base board near one longitudinal edge thereof are a plurality of spaced spring clips 13, each comprising a single strand of wire of relatively stiff material bent to form a straight terminal shank 14, provided with a convoluted horizontally arranged bearing coil 15 bent therefrom, and a curved yieldable jaw terminal 16.
The said clips are mounted upon the baseV board by having the terminal Shanks 111 thereof embedded or otherwise engaged in the said base board so as to have the convoluted bearing 15, rest exteriorly against the upper face of the base board to maintain the yieldable jaw terminals 16, vertically disposed and at right angles to the base board to permit the detachable mounting of a plurality of calendar memorandum strips or pages 17.
Each page or strip 17, is printed in chronological subdivisions of time, commencing with the beginning of the year and continuing to its end, each day being allotted a separate space for the insertion of a memorandum.
Detachably connected to the clip 13, and normally superimposed on the pages 17, is a cover 18, which is adapted to hide the said pages from view. Contained within the base board 8 are recesses or depressions 19, to accommodate the bills of free extremities of the yieldable jaws 16, so as to prevent the accidental detachment of the lowermost page of the calendar pages.
The strips of paper or leaves are detached from the hook jaw terminals by pulling upwardly and rearwardly on the clips 13 so that the convoluted bearing coils 15 will become distorted, whereby the free ends of the Iiaws will disengagc from in the openings in the sheets of papers or leaves, thus permitting their removal from the pad. Should it be desired to remove the leaves orV sheets of paper fromV the jaw terminals of the clips without raising the latter it is only necessary to tear the said strips of paper or leaves from the said jaw terminals, this being desired only When the sheets have been used and When they are unt for further use.
What is claimed is The combination With a base board, of a plurality of spring clips mounted thereon, each comprising a single strand of relatively stiff Wire bent near one end to forni a right angular terminal adapted to be embedded in the base board, the other end of the Wire being bent to provide a hook shaped jaw adapted to detaohably Connect a plurality of pages upon said board, the said, Wire being` further bent spaced from the right angular terminal to provide a horizontally arranged convoluted bearing adapted to norinally rest against one face of the board.
In testimony whereof, I aiX my signature, in presence of two Witnesses. v
