ISIDOR YASSENOFF, OF COLUMBS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE SWASH MOTOR WASHER COMPANY, 0F COLU1VIBUS,'OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO. i
ADJUSTABLE STAND AND BURNER.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsIDoR YAssnNoFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Stands and Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a combination burner and stand for a washing machine tub or clothes receptacle; it embodies especially a burner and att-achments thereto for the purpose of connecting pivoted separate legs therewith, upon which the tub or clothes receptacle is adapted to be positioned.
The object of the invention is not only to provide a combination burner and stand, but to attach the legs to the burner in such a way that when the tub is placed thereon, the legs are separated in such manner as to grip the tub, thereby holding it in fixed position. When the clothes receptacle or tub is lifted from the stand, the legs thereupon swing upon their pivots and collapse somewhat.
The invention includes the parts just mentioned and other features and their combinations which will be hereinafter specifically set forth.
In the drawings which are hereto attached and hereby made a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view from above of the burner, the legs being attached. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the burner and attached legs, showing the clothes receptacle in place in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a partial vertical transverse section through the central portion of the burner. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the burner, which includes a ring 2 which may be provided with seats or cut- outs 3, 4 and 5, to receive suitable projections of a spreader plate 18 which may be located above a plate 23 having a central opening 24 for the passage of the gas from the chamber of the burner to a central point beneath the spreader plate. The burner has integrally formed or cast thereon the ears 6, 7 8 and 9, said ears being formed in pairs so as to receive between them gripping and supporting members, such as shown at 10,11, 12, and 13; each member is of angular formation including a gripping arm 14 and a leg 15, said legs extending radially a greater distance than Specification of Letters Patent.

the arms, which latter' near their inner ends have pivot openings to accommodate pins 16 passed through registering openings in the ears. When thus positioned, each niember is adapted to swing on the pivot 16, and when the stand and burner are detached from the tub, the legs 15, which have a constant tendency to move outwardly at their lower ends, will' occupy approximately the position shown at the right in Fig. 2 in dotted lines, by reference to which it will be seen that the gripping member 14 swings inwardly. When the tub is placed upon the arms, the legs will be drawn inwardly to approximately the positions shown in heavy lines in Fig. 2, but under the weight of the tub the ends of the legs tend to move outwardly and thereby the t-ub orl clothes receptacle is clamped or gripped by the flanges 17 formed upon the outer ends of the arms 14. To enable the legs to move outwardly they are curved at their lower ends so as to readily move over the floor. The drawings show a burner having four gripping and supporting members attached thereto, but it is understood that more or fewer may be provided as desired, the operation thereof remaining the same.
The burner plate 1 8 may be of any preferred form, and is preferably formed with openings 19 around its circumference. It gas supply pipe is connected to opening 20 of the burner.
The pins 16 may be formed in such manner as to be easily inserted and retracted, or instead of the pin, a bolt with a wing nut of the usual formation maybe used whereby the parts may be snugly drawn together and adjusted as desired, and such wing nut I have shown at 22 in Fig. 2.
It will be seen from the foregoing that I have provided a combination burner and stand which is easily constructed, is separable, and which is so formed that the stand grips and clamps the tub or clothes receptacle automatically when the latter is placed thereon, while at the same time the gripping or clamping effect is not so great as to render the removal of the tub or clothes receptacle diicult; further, I have constructed this combination burner and stand in such manner that the parts are readily detached and assembled, and are very easily accessible.
The specific construction shown in the drawings may be departed from in practice,
A stand for washing machines comprising a central burner including a ring, a series of gripping and supporting memloers pivot-ed to said ring, each being composed of an upper short arm and a lower leg, the outer ends of the latter extending radially a distance greater than the outer ends of the arm members, said arms having upwardly eX- tended flanges for gripping the edges of a tub -by the outward movement of the outer ends of the legs under the weight of the tub. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
