Description

G. M. FOLLBTT.
CLOTHES LINE SUPPORT.
APPLICATION rmzn nno. 29,1908.
Patented Feb. 22, 1910.
lNl ENTOA (1 M. F o I l e w W] TNESSES /1 By lllorneys CHARLES M. FOLLETT, OF MONTGOMERY, MICHIGAN.
CLOTHES-LINE SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 29, 1908.
Serial No. 469,814.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. FOLLETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county of Hillsdale and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- Line Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appert'ains to make and use the same.
The invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts, including their construction, substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed and defined by the claim.
In the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this application Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a central or axial section of one of the line pulleys.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in the several views, 1 and 2 indicate posts or supports having secured thereto opposed brackets 3 preferably of the general outline shown, or which may be of other suitable construction as the same constitute no essential feature of my invention. Duplicate pulleys I are suspended or supported in position, one by means of each of said brackets, said pulleys each consisting of a hollow hub 5, sleeves 5 arranged upon opposite sides of said hub, with their bores in alinement with the bore of said hub, and two sets of arms 6 and 7. One set of arms 6 radiates from said hub, said arms having a ring 8 attached thereto intermediate of their lengths, the outer portions of said arms extending away from the portions thereof within the ring at equal obtuse angles, an annular rim 11 being attached to the outer ends of said arms. The other set of arms 7 are connected to said ring intermediate of the first named arms and are extended outwardly therefrom at equal obtuse angles and have an annular rim 10 attached to their outer ends. A pin 12 is inserted through said sleeves and said hub and each of the pulley suspending brackets for the retention of the pulley in operative position; and enizompassing said pulleys is an endless clothes ine 13.
arms and their adjunctive parts as above noted is to avoid the liability of breaking the clothes-pins, as would otherwise be the case if the upper and lower series of said arms were arranged in the same vertical alincment, and by providing said arms with the rims the clothes are )reventcd from being caught on the ends of said arms, as they are carried around the same when moving the line, as is thought is apparent.
.lrcferably the upper series of arms are of less dimension than that of the lower arms, while the number of said arms may be greater or less in forming the pulley, as may be desired.
It will be noted that in suspending or placing the clothes upon the line, the operator is not required to change her or his position from that assumed at the outset, it only being required, as the clothes are placed upon the line, piece by piece, to manually manipulate the line so that the pulleys will be revolved thereby to permit of the suspension of the clothes from a common point, as will be readily understood.
It will be seen that, from the foregoing, a very simple and ctl'cctive device is provided for the purpose indicated and at ver 7 little expense and one which is capable of being readily mamifactured and which is simple in operation and labor saving to the user.
I claim:
In a clothes line pulley, a hollow hub, arms radiating therefrom, a ring attached to the arms intermediate their length, the outer portions of said arms extending away from the portions of the arms within the ring at equal obtuse angles, an annular rim attached to the outer ends of said arms, arms connected to said ring intermediate the first named arms and extending Olll'Wtll'tll) there from at equal obtuse angles, and an annular rim attached to the outer ends of said last named arms.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JII ABLE S M. F0 LLETT.
