resilient and which, by reason of pressure of same on the skin of the wearer, will not cause stoppage of circulation of the blood and consequent dark lines in said skin, and whichwill not bruise, abrade or otherwise injure aid skin, be it ever so tender, and by the use of which, all annoyance and discomt'ort to the wearer of same is obviated.

Further objects are; to so construct said cover that the same shall be thoroughly sanitary, be non-absorbent and can readily be Washed or otherwise cleaned, and to provide ready means, by which said cover can be easily and quickly placed and secured on, or removed from any of the ordinary spectacle temples now generally in use; also to provide a cover of this character which shall be neat in appearance, substantial, durable,- and extremely cheap in cost of manufacture.

I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of spectacles, provided with straight temples inserted in the elastie covers. 7 Fig. 2 is a magnified transverse section, on the line X X, seen in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the other various forms of temples on which the elastic cover is used, showing said cover on a riding temple. Fig. 4 is a magnified longitudinal section, cut verti *ally through the center of a portion of a temple and a portion of the elastic cover.

Referring to Fig. 3, the inwardly projecting flutes 3 are formed integral with tube 2 and extend continuously in spiral arrangement throughout the entire length thereof. In this spiral arrangement of said flutes lies the novelty'and utility of my invention.

In the manufacture of the elastic cover, the tube 2 andits internal spirally arranged flutes 3 are formed of one piece of rubber, vulcanized in an ordinary tubular metal mold, around a screw threaded metal core, from which the thus formed elastic cover is readilyremoved by turning and thereby unscrewing the same from said core. Since said mold and core form no part of this invent-ion, the same are neither shown nor described in detail.

In practice the described elastic cover is made of considerable length and is cut into such shorter lengths as are desired for covering practically all of temples 1. In application, temple 1 is inserted in the described elastic cover which is forced thereon with a rotary motion.

It will be understood that the flutes 3 render tube 2 very elastic, and by reason of the elastic pressure of said flutes, the same adjust themselvestwithin reasonable limits,) to snugly fit temples 1 of various shapes and proportions, and by reason of their elastic pressure against said temples, are caused to adhere to the same and are thereby efliciently held in place thereon.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An elastic cover, formed of a length of elastic rubber tube, having a smooth, nonporous outer surface and provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting, spirally arranged flutes, extending continuously throughout the entire length of said tube and formed integral therewith, in combination with a spectacle temple, snugly inserted in said cover.
