G. MELLING FINGER RING GUARD Filed NOV. 28. 1923 v A TMR/vaya Patented Apr. 14, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.'
GEORGE MELLING, 0F LANSING, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0' ALICE M.
MELLING, OF LANSING, MICHIGAN.
FINGER-RING GUARD. i
Application led November 28, 1923. Serial No. 677,576.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MELLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lansing, county of Ingham, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger-Ring Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in finger ring guards'.
The main object of the invention is to provide an improved finger ring guard which is effec-tive in retaining the ring upon the finger and which also serves as a protectin cover therefor.
Objects relating to details and economies of construction will appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects by the devices and means described in the following specifcation. The invention is delined and pointed out in the claims.
A ructure embodying the features of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a perspective view of a hand having one ofmy improved finger ring guards in operative position thereon.
Fig. II is a longitudinal section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1 through the improved guard in its preferred form.
Fig. 1I l 'is a longitudinal section of the guard with a ring shown therein by dotted lines.
In the drawing similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My improved guard comprisesan annular body portion 1, preferably of rubber, which is adapted to yieldingly embrace a ring upon the finger, as shown in Fig. III. This body l terminates in annular rings or thickened rims 2 at each end, the whole being preferably formed integrally of rubber, the body being thickened into the rims 2. These annular parts 2 are adapted to yield so that they may snugly lembrace the finger, thus not only retaining the guard upon the swimming and bathing.
finger and thereby guarding the ring, but also to effectively exclude water and the like from contact with the ring. This is particularly desirable as many rings have been lost when removed for washing the hands and similar purposes, and also in The ring is also protected when rough labor is to be performed, thus preventing loss or injury to the stoneset.
My improved finger ring guard may be very economically manufactured and is very convenient to use, the guards adjusting themselves to variations in sizes of fingers; that is, it is not necessary to provide the guards in a great variety of sizes, a few sizes being suflicient to accommodate many sizes of lingers.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a finger ring guard comprising an` annular resilient body portion to yieldingly embrace, a ring upon a finger and terminating in a thickened integralfinger embracing rim at each end.
2. As an article of manufacture, a finger ring guard comprising a pair of resilient members to receive a finger and spaced to receive a ring between them, and a resilient relatively thin wall extending between and secured to said members constituting a housing for the ring embraced thereby.
3. A finger ring guard comprising an annular housing to embrace a ring upon a finger and terminating in integral rings :1t-each. end to yieldingly embrace the finger at each side of the ring.
4. A finger ring guard comprising a pair of resilient annular members to embrace a finger at each side of the ring to be guarded,
and a yielding wall connecting said ring members and to embrace the ring.
-In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
GEORGE MELLING. [1.. s]
