Be` it known that I, CYNTHIA TIIARP, a citizen of the United States, resid-ing at Hornell, in the county pf Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Implement-Holders; and I do declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in-i vention, such as will enable others skilled in' the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in implement holders, and more particularly to an attachment for sewing machines.

The object of 'the invention is to provide an attachment of this character comprising a pin cushion and needle case, a spool holder, and a. thimble holder and having means whereby the same may be readily applied to a sewing machine to support these articles within convenient reach of the machine operator.

With the foregoing and lother objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a portion of a sewing machine head showing the application of the invention thereto; Fig. 2 is a side view of the attachment taken at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a central vertical sectional view of the attachment on the line 3-3 of Fig. l, showing the cover of the needle casein open position.

In carrying out my invention, I employ a needle case or receptacle 1, which is preferably in the form of a retangular box of suitable depth and of a convenient size for holding papers of needles or loose needles. The case 1 is provided with a cover 2 which is preferably .hingedly connected thereto, asshown, and on the top of said cover is arran ed a pin cushion. 3, which is preferably stu ed with .emery powder, whereby said cushion also serves as a means for cleaning and sharpening pins and needles. I

On the under side of the case 1 and. eX- tending diametrically across the same is a fiat bar 4 adapted to extend longitudinally of the sewing machine head, the ends of this bar being bent upwardly beyond the case at substantially right angles and having their edges rolled together to form cylindrical pins 5. To the flat side of the case 1 and the ar 4 1s secured by rivets or similar fastenings a spring cli 6 which is arranged at a right angle to t e bar and depends therefrom to be sprung into engagement with the arm 7 of the machine head to securely hold the attachments in place. The clip is of an inverted U-shape, andis secured at its center to the bar' 4 and the case 1 in such a manner that a single set of rivets or similar devices will secure the spring to the bar and the bar to the case. The arms ofthe clip are preferably lined with felt or similar material to prevent the clip from scratching or marring the nish of the sewing`machine head, and to prevent the loss of the needles when the machine head is dropped. The cover 2 of the case is provided with a suitable catch 8.

` By means of an attachment constructed in accordance with my invention, a support is provided for holding the articles herein enumerated or other similar articles employed by a seamstress in an out of the way position but within convenient reach of the operator. of the machine, The device is constructedin such a manner that the cost of manufacture is very slight, while it possesses strength and durability.- The pins may be utilized for holding spools of thread, thimbles `or other devices. The thread may be carried from a spool on one of the pins to the needle of the machine so that it may be readily fed in the usual operation of lthe machine. As the device will be supported on the sewing machine head longitudinally of the same, it is not apt to be struck and dislodged by the operator using the. machine, and may be readily removed from the machine when the same is to be cleaned or repaired, and may be easily applied to any sewing machine.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim 1s:-
