To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, SETRAK G, EGHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ogden, in the county of Weber and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Prescription-Files, of which the following is a specification.

Among the principal objects of this invention are to provide a file stand with a removable frame which can be removed when filled and replaced by an empty frame; to adapt a file for use with an improved form of file stub to which prescriptions may be secured after they are received; and to provide adjustable separating and indexing devices for separating and classifying the contents of the file.

The characteristics and advantages of the invention are hereafter fully set forth in connection with a detailed description of the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of' the le with parts of the uprights broken away; Fig. 2 an edge elevation of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 a transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 1; Fig. 4 a view of a stub to be used with the file; and Fig. 5 a detail of the bottom portion of the remov able frame. i

Reference numeral 1 designates a base, 2, 2, uprights secured to the base having channels 4 formed in their confronting faces, 5 the general designation of a removable frame consisting of a b-ottom piece 6, side pieces 7, which may if desired be continuous with the bottom, and a central vertical spindle 8 connected with the bottom piece. The removable frame 5 is inserted in the channels oi" uprights 2 and slid down until the bottom piece 6 rests on base 1. The side pieces 7 are then concealed within channels 4.

9 is a cross-piece or latch hinged at 10 to one of the uprights and provided at the other end wit-h a hook 11 adapted to be sprung over a projection 12 on the other upright. 13 is a prong of reduced size at the top of spindle 8, passing through a hole provided for it in latch 9 when the latch is closed. The latch serves to retain the removable frame in position.

The base 1, uprights 2, latch 9, etc., are sometimes referred to for identification as The removable frame which constitutes the tile proper is sometimes identied as the file.

Supposing the latch to be unhooked and thrown back and a spindle inserted in the file, stubs 14 to the desired number up to the capacity of the tile are placed on spindle 8. The stubs, which are usually of paper, may have one edge 15 doubled over, although this is not essential. Centrally near the edge the stubs have perforations 16 to accommodate the spindle. A number of frames 5 may, of course, be provided, and these may be filled with stubs in advance, ready for insertion in the file when desired. The prescriptions are filed by pasting them to the stubs in order as they are received. In Fig. 4 a prescription blank 17 is indicated in dotted lines in the position in which it is pasted upon the stub.

It is important to provide means for readily separating unfilled stubs from the filled ones. For this purpose one of the uprights 2 is provided with a flange 18, which has ratchet-like notches 19. A vertical rod 20 is secured adjacent to the flange and a clip 21 is slidably mounted on the rod. The clip consists of two wings or finger pieces 22, 23, each pivoted upon the rod and pressed apart by a spring 24. The finger 25 is connect-ed to move with wing 22 and wing 23 is so disposed that with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 3 it rests in one of the notches 19. In this position finger 25 is relatively close to spindle 8 and supports the empty stubs 14 which rest upon it, separating them from the filled stubs at the bottom of the file. To release one or more of the stubs for filling' it, the finger pieces 22, 23 are pressed together, thereby swinging finger 25 away from beneath the stubs and permitting the desired number to be dropped toward the bottom of the file. As the stubs are used clip 21 may be moved up so that linger piece 23 engages other and higher notches 19. A second vertical rod 26 is secured near the other upright 2 and in this rod is mounted pivotally and also to slide vertically an arm 27, the end of which is bent over to form a marker 28. This is used when any part-icular prescription has been found in the lile to mark the place as long as may be desired. The marker is shown in position in Fig. 1, separating the prescriptions and indicating one that is desired for use. The arm may be readily adjusted to any desired height by moving it up or down on rod 26. When one of the removable frames has been filled by placing prescriptions on all the stubs, it is to be removed. and another frame loaded with empty stubs put in its place.

Having described my invention, I claim:

1. The combination of a file stand including a base, uprights and a latch, and a removable file comprising a bot-tom piece, members adapted to engage the uprights of the stand and a spindle adapted to receive a plurality of stubs.

2. In a file, the combination of a base, two channeled uprights thereon, a removable frame comprising two side pieces resting in the channels, a bottom piece connecting them and resting on the base, and a spindle rising centrally from the base, and a latch hinged to one of the uprights and engaging the c-ther to hold the frame in position.

3. In a file, the combination of a base, two channeled uprights thereon, a removable frame comprising two side pieces resting in the channels, a bottom piece connecting them and resting on the base, and a spindle rising centrally from the base, a latch hinged to one of the uprights and engaging the other to hold the frame in position, and a vertically adjustable clip for holding stubs carried by the spindle.

In a iile, the combination of a base, two channeled uprights thereon, a removable frame comprising two side pieces resting in the channels, a bottom piece connecting them and resting on the base, a spindle rising centrally from the base, a latch hinged to one of the uprights and engaging the other to hold the frame in position, a notched flange on one of the uprights, a rod adjacent to the flange, a clip mounted on the flange comprising two spring-separated finger pieces, one of which is adapted to engage the notches, a linger rigid with the other finger piece and serving to support stubs carried by the spindle, another rod adjacent to one of the uprights, and a marker pivoted on the rod and vertically adjustable for retaining the desired place among iilled stubs carried by-the spindle.

6. In combination with a file stand, a file removably mounted in said stand and provided wit-h a spindle for supporting a plurality of stubs, and a latch adapted to secure the le Within the le stand and to lock the stubs upon the spindle.

7. In a file, a base and uprights thereon, a removable frame engaged between the uprights, a spindle carried by said frame, and an adjustable marker supported from the base and adapted to engage stubs carried on the spindle.
