B. F. HIATT.
CLOTHES LINE SUPPORT.
APPLICATION 11,111; 11116.3, 1910.
Patented Mar. 14,1911. 1
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMINE FRANK HIATT, OF ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA.
CLOTHES-LINE SUPPORT.
Application filed August 3, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMINE FRANK HiA'rr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alameda, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to endless clothes lines and the principal object of the same is to provide novel supporting means for the upper and lower flights of the line so that said flights will be kept in relatively spaced positions without interfering with the longitudinal movements of the line.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred. and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation of an endless clothes line equipped with the improved supports. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of one of the supports. Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation thereof. Fig. 4; is a view similar to Fig. 3, but showing the members of the support disconnected.
Referring to said accompanying drawings by numerals, 1 and 2 designate the two posts which are provided with the pulleys 8 over which the endless line 4t travels.
The improved support whiclrforms the subject matter of this invention comprises the peripherally grooved pulley 5, which is provided with the integral spindles G the ends 7 of which taper to a point. Said spindles are equipped with bearing flanges '7.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1911.
Serial No. 575,239.
The pulley 5 engages the upper flight of the line 4:.
A hanger body 8, which is formed of a single length of resilient wire or rod material, is doubled to provide the parallel arms 9 the ends of which are rolled to provide eyes 10 which engage the spindles (3 to suspend the body 8 therefrom. The lower portion of body 8 is contracted to provide a notch 1]. for the reception. of the lower flight of the line l. and in which said flight is movable vertically and longitudinally. As aforesaid, the body 8 is resilient, and the resiliency of the same causes the arms 9 to spring toward each other so that when the pulley 5 is in the posit-ion shown in Fig. l, the arms will spring to engagement with the spindles 6 thereof.
It will be seen from the foregoing that this invention can be economically produced for the reasons that the pulley and spindles can be readily cast and the body 8 can be formed from a single piece of n'iaterial, such as ordinary telegraph wire.
lVhat I claim as my invention is A support for endless clothes lines comprising a pulley for engaging the upper flight of a line and provided with spindles, and a body formed of a single length of re silient material shaped to provide suspendiug arms provided with end eyes for engag ing said spindles and a lower contracted notch for the reception of the lower flight of said line.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
