CAMP-STOVE.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Jon P. JAooBs, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camp-Stoves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in, the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to camp stoves has for its object to provide a collapsible camp stove in which all of the parts have permanent connection, and which is constructed to provide suitable draft, without the aid of the customary flue.

A further object of the invention is to provide other improved details of structure which will presently be fully described and pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a perspective view of a camp stove constructed according to my invention. Fig. II is a perspective view of same in its collapsed condition. Fig. III is a vertical section on the line IIIIII, Fig. I, looking toward the rear of the stove. Fig. IV is a sectional view on the line IV-IV, Fig. I, looking toward the front of the stove. Fig. V is a perspective view of the rear part: of the stove, showing the upper flue opening.

Referring more in detail to the parts l designates the stove top which is preferably rectangular in shape and has openings 2 which may be closed by the lids 3. Each lid 3 is formed of sheet metal having its edge curved under, around a'wire 3, to provide a strengthening bead for the purpose of obviating buckling of the lid under heat from the stove. The lid is preferably connected to the stove top by a pivot pin 4 which extends through the lid and top and through an intermediate block 5 of the thickness of the edge bead. Each side edge of the top is turned downwardly and carries a longitudinal rod 6, on which side members 7 are hinged, the side members being of less width than the top so that they may fold into the position shown in Fig. II.

8 designates a front plate which is con nected to one of the side members 7 by hinges 9. This front plate fits snugly under the top member 1, but is raised from the bottom to provide a lower draft opening 10.

wherein the edges of the front member are folded back on the rear face to form stiflening flanges 12. At one side of the opening 11 is hinged a door 13, and at the side opposite the hinges is a latch 14 which is pivoted at one end and provided at its opposite end with a slot 15 to enable the latch head to slide over a stop pin 16. The end of the latch head facing the fuel opening is bent outwardly to provide a finger grip 17, so that when the door is closed the head may be moved thereover and held thereagainst by friction.

Projecting laterally from the edge of the front member 8, opposite the hinges 9, are the upper and lower latch dogs 18 having facing grooves 19. In the side member 7, which folds over the free end of the door member 8, are slots 20, through which the lat-ch dogs 18 may be projected to expose the grooves 19.

Slidably mounted on the outer face of the side member 7 is a latch plate 21 having slots 22, through which the keeper pins 23 are projected, these pins being firmly an chored in the side member and having heads for retaining the latch plate in position. The outer end of this plate is of sufficient width to project into the grooves 19 of both the upper and lower latch dogs 18 and retain the door member in its closed position.

24 designates a back plate which is conneoted to the opposite member 7 by hinges 25 and has latch dogs 26 which project through slots in the opposite side member 7 and have grooves 27 similar to the grooves 19 in dogs 18.

through which dogs 26 are adapted to project, is a latch plate 28, which is connected with the side member by pins 29, and is identical in construction and operation with the stove are constructed of sheet metal and stiffened at the edges by folding the material inwardly to provide stiffening flanges 7 (Figs. I, III and IV). When it is in its collapsed condition, the end parts are folded inwardly against the inner faces of the opposite side members and the side members folded inwardly against the top, so that the entire stove occupies but a very limited space. When the stove is to be set up, the side members are unfolded, the end members spread outwardly and the latch dogs projected through the slots in the respective sides, and the latch plates moved outwardly, so that their edges are projected through the grooves in the latch dogs and hold the end members in position. By providing latch plates of substantial width, instead of inclividual latches, both of the dogs may be fixed in position at a single operation and a stitler construction is provided.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:-

1. A camp stove comprising a top member, side members hinged to the top member and provided with slots, end members iinged to the side members and having latch dogs adapted for projection through said slots, and latches carried by the side members and adapted for cooperation with said dogs.

2. A camp stove comprising a top memher, side members hinged to said top member and provided with slots, end members hinged to the side members and having latch dogs adapted for projection through said slots, and latch plates slidably mounted on said side members and adapted for cooperation with said dogs.

3. A camp stove comprising a top member, side members hinged on said top member and provided with slots, end members hinged to said side members and having latch dogs adapted for projection through said slots and provided with facing grooves, and latch plates slidably mounted on the side members and adapted for projection through said grooves, substantially as set forth.

4:. A camp stove comprising a top member, side members hinged to the top member, end members hinged to the side members, and means for securing said parts together, one of the end members being spaced from the bottom; and the opposite end member from the top to provide upper and lower draft openings, substantially as set forth.

5. A camp stove comprising a top member, side members hinged to said top member and each having slots near one end, an end member hinged to each side member at the end opposite said slots and having latch dogs adapt-ed for projection through the slots in the opposite side member, and a latch member carried by each side member and adapted for cooperation with said latch dogs.

(3. A camp stove comprising a top member, side members connected with the top member and each having slots near one end, end members connected with the side members, each of said end members being hinged to a side member and having latch dogs projected through the slots in the opposite side member, and a single latch plate on each side member of sutlicient width to-engage the latch dogs which are projected through the side member on which said plate is mounted.
