FOLDING CAMP-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct. 26,- 1909.
Application filed January 30,1909. Serial No. 475,169.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CASH L. SWINNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fredalba, in the county of San Be'rnar'dino and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Camp-Stoves, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to a stove of the knock-down type, especially designed and adapted for use by camping parties, pros pectors, etc.
The invention consists in a stove in which the various parts are hinged or otherwise suitably connected together so that they can be folded into a small space, making a flat bundle, and can be readily set up at the place of use.
WVith these objects in view, my invention consists in the ,novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims-and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figurel is a perspective view of the stove, a portion of the front being broken away to show the interior construction. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the stove. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the stove set up. Fig. 4: is a detail perspective view illustrating the .manner of locking parts together.
In these drawings 1 represents a to plate provided with the usual openings and lids.
This plate is provided with depending side and end flanges 2, and to the rear side flange is hinged or otherwise secured a back 3 the same length as the stove and of any suitable width. An end piece 4 is hinged to one of the end flanges and forms an end of the stove and also one side of the oven. To the opposite end flange is hinged an end piece 5 which forms the other end of the stove and also one side of the fire box. A bottom plate 7 is hinged to the end plate 5 and when the stove is set up is supported by suitable brackets 6 carried by the end 4 and brackets -8 carried by the back 3. Suitable supporting legs 9 are formed integral with the ends 4 and 5.
To form the oven I provide the plate 10, the upper marginal portion of which is bent upon itself to engage an angled plate 10 as shown at 10". This plate when in position extends vertically and transversely across the front end portion of the stove and to its lower edge is hinged a plate -11 also hinged to the end 4, the plate 11 formin the bottom of the oven and being spaced from the hinged bottom 7 The plate 4: is
provided with a suitable draft opening 4 regulated by a sliding damper plate 13 which slides'between guide lugs 14 carried by the end plate 4. The side of the stove opposite the back 3 is closed by hinged doors 12 and 12 placed side by side, the door 12 closing the front of the fire box, and the door '12 closing the oven and also covering the space between the oven bottom and the bottom plate 7. These doors are provided with suitable handles 15 and by opening the door 12 access is gained to the fire box, and by opening the door 12 accessis gained to the oven, and when both doors are closed both the oven and the fire box, and also the space beneath the oven is closed in. To prevent smoke from the fire 4 tom at the front. I also provide suitable hooks 1 7 and eyes 17 for locking the ends and back together when the stove is set up, and I provide also a telescopingpipe 18.
What I claim is:
1. A knock-down stove consisting of a top, a back hinged to the top, ends hinged to the top, front doors hinged to said top, a bottom hinged to one end, means carried by the other end and the back for supporting said bottom, and an oven formed of two plates, hinged together, one of which is hinged to one of the ends, and the other of which is temporarily secured to the under side of the top.
'2. A knock-down stove consisting of a flanged top, a back hinged to said flange, end plates hinged to the flange, a bottom hinged to one of the end plates, brackets carried by-the other end plate adapted to support said bottom, an oven formed of two lates hinged together, one of said plates orming a bottom for the oven and being hinged to one of the end plates, means for securing the other plate to the top to form a side of the oven, and doors hinged to the top and closing respectively a fire place and the said oven. I
3. A knock-down stove comprising a top, hinged back, end, door and bottom plates, an oven inclosed b said plates when the stove is set up, sai oven consisting of two 7 lates hinged to'gethef, one of said plates .space at the front between the oven and'the;
eing hingedto anend plate, the other of stove bottom, as and for the purpose set said oven plates being bent upon itself along forth.
its free end, an angled plate carried by the CASH L. SWINNEY. .5 top and engaged by said bent portion of the NVitnesses:
oven plate, and a flap hinged to the front W. J. CURTIS,
edge of the other oven plateand closing the C. H. COCHRAN.
