FILING-CASE AND RECORD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. f,- 1911.
Application filed September 28, 1910; Serial No. 584,357.
commercial documents, papers, etc, and'particularly pertains to a combined filing case and record for filing and recording notes, mortgages, and the like.
It is the object of this invention to provide a receptacle or case for notes and the like, having combined therewith a recording sheet on which may be'tabulated such data and information relating to the papers within the ease as may be found necessary, thus doing away with the necessity of handling the notes and dispensing with the use of record books and card indexes. A further object is to provide a combined note case and record sheet, which is simple in construction, compact and portable; the use of which facilitates the work of clerks in handling and keeping account of, notes and the like; and which saves time in checking and auditing. p
The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, inwhich- Figure 1 is a perspective view ofthe invention in the open position. Fig. 2 is 'an end view showing the case partly closed; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the casein its closed position. Fig. e is a plan view of the case in the open position. Fig. 5 is a detail in section of the hinge joint.
In the drawings A represents a series oi pockets or receptacles for documents, papers," and the like, which are formed by connect in a number of thin partitions together at their ends with accordion folds or plaits A. The partitions or walls of the pockets A are adapted to be considerably separated by reason of the plaited ends A, so asto enlarge the pockets A, or they may be folded compactly together. These pockets on receptacles A. are mounted between stiii side lates or boards 2-3 which are flexibly minted at,ftheir lower ends to a bottom board e- Thenppgtr edge of the side board 2 has a lid 5 hingedly connected therewith, on the I outer edge of which is formed a flap 6. The lid 5 is adapted to extend over the open end of the pockets A, and the flap 6 to project down on the side 3 where it may be retains by a snap fastening '2'.
Hingedly securedto the lower edge of the side member 3 is a tabulating plate ormemorandum sheet which is formed of silicate slates c?2c-d-ef-g and h hingedly connected together and arranged as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The upper faces of these plates are ruled, as shown in Fig. 4, or'in any other suitable form, and are designed for the-purpose of recording the numbers, names, amounts and other items relating ts the papers or other contents of the filing pockets A. By forming the tabnlating plates of silicate slate or other material from which pencil lines may be easily erased, a record sheet is produced which will admit of frequent changes and alterations in the items and data written thereon, thus enabling the user to keep accurate account of the contents of the case and permitting him to determine at a glance any information he may desire either ori a single document or the entire contents of the case collectively. The recording or memorandum plates e--f- 57-h are adapted to be folded face down ward along the hinge connection represented by the line upon the plates a--Z2--c-cl respectively, and this double thickness of the plates may then be folded around the filing case, as shown in Figs. 2- and 3:; the plates a e folding against the side 3; the plates l1---f on the cover 5; the plates 0-9 over the sides 2; and the plates cZ-J). upon the bottom v p A hinged flap 8 is provided at the junction of the bottom 4, side 3 and plate a, which is designed to overlap the folded plates [Z-7L, as shown in Fig. 3, and to be engaged therewith by means of snap catches When the case and record are folded together, as just described and as shown in Fig. 3, it forms a. compact package which may be easily carried about, placed on a desk or tiled in a cabinet, and by reason st. its condensed "form will take up but small space.
The various pockets A may be indexed, as at 10, if desired to facilitate the location of the papers therein.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1.111 a filing case of the character described. a receptacle, and a .u'iemorandum sheet- Ioldable upon itself and the folded portions adapted to be folded around said receptacle.
2. In a filing case. a series of receptacles, a case in which said receptacles are mounted, and a memorandum sheet foldahle around said case and said receptacles.
3. A filing case comprisinga series of foldable receptacles, a case in which said receptacles are mounted, a hinged cover on said case for closing said receptacles, a memorandum sheet foldable around said case and said receptacles, and means for temporarily locking the folded memorandum sheet around said case.
'4. A filing case comprising a series of foldable indexed receptacles, a case in which said receptacles are mounted, a hinged cover on said case, a memorandum sheet hinged to said case and foldable therearound, and means for temporarily locking the folded memorandum sheet around said case, said means consisting of snap catches."
5. A filing case comprising a series of foldahle indexed receptacles, a case in which said receptacles are mounted, a hinged cover for said case a memorandum sheet com osed my hand in the presence of two subscribing-- Witnesses.
