CHARLES W. KAIGHIN, OE CLEVELAND, OHIO.
SI-IOE-CALK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 19t l,
Application iled Julie 17, 1910. Serial No. 567,492.
To all whom 'it' may concern:
Be it known that l, CHARLES lll. Knioiiin, a citizen et' the United States, resident ot Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Uhio, have invented a new and nset'ul lmprovement in Shoe-Callis, ot which the tollowing is a specilication, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best inode in which l have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it trom other inventions.
My invention has reference to a shoe callt, and more particularly to an improved term which will be readily detachable, and ull at the same time the demand for both simplicity and economy of construction.
The said invention consists of means which are hereinatter -tully descrilied and particularly pointed out in the claim.
rlhe annexed drawing and the following description set forth in detail c-ertain means cnibodyingl the invention. the disclosed means, however, constituting but one of various mechanical terms in which the principle of the invention may be applied.
Referring to the drawing in which like letters of reference reifer to like parts tl'iroughout the several views. lligure l is a top plan of a shoe having my invention associated therewith. TFig. 2 .is an elevation ot the same, partly in section. 3 is perspective ot' my calk proper. Fig, il is one modification of F 8.
The shoe A as represented in the drawing.y is provided on its under side with the usual toe calk a', block heels n?. and moreover with the customary toe-clip c?. To best accommodate the secnri ng of my detachable calle l choose to :torni the block heel callas in snch a manner that when the two free ends aAi are bent back upon themselves, two narrow intervening slots a5 are left, :tor ay purpose presently appearing.
The part ot my invention comprising the detachable call; proper consists of an angnlar member B, of approximately the same ing leg' b length as the width oit the shoe to which it is to be applied. One leg 7) oit this member B is adapted to extend across the heel oit the shoe to slip into and snugly tit. in the slots a5. When this position is assumed, the other leg b2 will project downwardly and preferably to t'orm a substantial right angle with the tace of the shoe. The downwardly projectis provided with an opening b3 midway of its ends. bolt C, having` a recess c at one end, whereby it may be tirmly seated against the front inner edge of the shoe has its opposite end, which is screwthreaded at c2, loosely extending through the opening o3. A suitable nut which is or- 'ardly disposed with respect te the member B. is adapted when turned ott the bolt, to
relatively adjust and positively iiiaintain the parts against displacement. as will be readily understood.
My improved shoe ealk will nicely serve the incidental function oli' a bar shoe, or if it is expressly desired, to so convert' the shoe, the member B may be appropriately replaced by one no longer etlicient as a calli, by reason ot' having been worn away. Further. the invention as attached will readily permit the owner to do his own packing. when occasion should require7 as will be manifest to those skilled in the art.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim therefore and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
As a new article ot manufacture, aV shoe call; comprising the eoi'nbination of a shoe having block heels provided with forwardly disposed slots, an angular member laving one of its legs disposed in said slots. and a fastening member connected with the other leg7 and adapted to maintain said angular member against displacement.
Signed by me, this 10th day ot June. 1910.
CHARLES lll. KAGHIN. rt-tested by- C'Un'r B. MUnLLnn, VVINIFRED lNALTZ.
