VISE.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen ALFRED HERT- LinN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Pueblo, in the county of Pueblo and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful improvement in Vises, of which the following is a specilication.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a portable and durable vise, supported on a suitable frame, and operated by means of foot power.
in the drawing- Figure l is a side view of the mechanism, with parts broken away to show ratchet arrangement on the same. Fig. 2 is a front view of the mechanism.
Similar numbers refer to similar parts in all the iigures of the drawings, and t-he various parts may be made or any suitable material.
Frame l is securely supported by legs 6 bolted or otherwise fastened thereto. To this frame l, a stationary head or jaw 2 is secured by bolts or otherwise. Through an opening in jaw 2, passes the movable jaw 3, formed with ratchet teeth as shown. Passing,` through movable jaw 8 is mandrel i, operated by handle 5. Hand lever 7 is pivoted in the main lever l0 for depressing toothed. movable block S, which is seated on springgr la, in the upper end of main lever l0, and' which is adapted to interlock with ratchet teeth in movable jaw 3. An eyebelt or other suitable means secures spring' 9 at its upper end to frame 1, and by proper means, spring 9 is attached at its lower end to a knuckle joint, which is connected with foot lever 13 by hanger 15. Main lever l0 is supported by frame land fulcrumed on main pin 13 passing' through frame l, and is attached at its lower end to knuckle joint l1.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 20, 1909.
Patented Mar. 7, 1913i. Serial No. 529,118.
in operation, foot pressure is applied to foot lever l2, and thereby knuckle-joint ll and toot lever l2 are both forced from t-he position shown approximately by the dot-ted line until main lever l0 takes the position about similar to position as shown in Fig. l. s pressure is thus applied, movable aw is constantly r gradually, as desired, forced by means of the ratchet nearer and nearer to stationary jaw 2, thereby giving pressure suitable to any work required. tihould it be desired to release jaw 3, after being forced toward jaw 2 and locked by the ratchet, lever 7 may be raised by suitable pressure, thereby forcing` down toothed block 8, until the same is free from movable jaw Lever l0 is provided with ratchets at the lower end thereoil and a suitable stop, as shown in Fig. 2. Foot lever l2 is made in such manner that it may be interlocked with ratchets on main lever l() at any time desired, or released by pressure downward and away from the ratchets.
irlaving thus fully described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is ln a vise, the combination of the frame, the main pin, the iiXed jaw, the movable jaw formed with ratchet teeth, the footlever, the main lever connected thereto and fulcrumed on the main pin, the toothed movable block seated in the upper end of the main lever, and the hand lever pivoted in the main lever for depressing` the toothed block, and the spring ior pressing the block upward to engage the movable jaw; substantially as described.
