Description
einem sans stent @titille Letters Patent No. 98,566, dated January 4, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of tue lame.
f HON- To al'l whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM COOPER, of Independence, in the county of Buchanan, and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Wringer; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference `being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and general arrangement of a clotheswringer, by which clothes will be wrung perfectly, without any danger of being torn, and which can readily be attached to a wash-tub or wash-machine of any kind. f
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same,
' I will now proceed to-de'scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figurel'is a perspective view, and
Figure 2, an end elevation, part in section.
A represents a fiame of suitable dimensions, having slotted end-pieces B B, in which `are placed the journals of Y a smooth roller or cylinder, C, one of said journals being outside of the frame, provided with a crank, D, for turning the roller. 1
Above, and resting ou the roller C, is another roller, E, of similar shape, the journals of which are also placed in the slots ofthe end-pieces B B, and held in position by journal-blocks F F, sliding in said slots, ,and placed .on the upper side of the journals.
Above the. rollerE, and rest-ing with its ends on 4the journal-blocks F F, is a spring-bar, G, which is acted upon, iu its centre, by a vertical bar, H, the upper end of which is pivoted to a cam at the end `of a. lever, J, which is in its turn pivoted between two ears, I I, on the upper cross-bar of the frame A, which is slotted, toallow said cam and bar H to Work freely.
By this means the spring-bar G can be forced down, so as to bring the rollers E and O as close together as may be desired.
0n one side, along each' of the end-pieces B B, is placed a vertical bar, K, which moves on two-headed bolts or screws, that pass through said bar and into the end-piece of the frame'.
The upper inner end of the bar K is grooved in an inclined manner, as seeuin iig. 2, and around the upper bolt or screw ou which the bar is placed; between said frame and bar, is placed a slotted wedge, L, moving in the inclined 'groove mentioned. i
The edge of the tub or wash-machine, on which the clothes-wringer is to be placed, is inserted between the lower edges of the bars K K and the endfpieces B B, the wedge L being drawn upward as far as possible.
By now pressing the wedge down', the. wringer will become firmly secured to the tub.
I am aware that the several devices herein shown and described, when taken separately, are, of thernselves, not new.
-Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
,The combination of the frame A, rollers` E C, spring G, bar H, cam-lever J, blocks K K, slotted wedges L, and journal-blocks F F, all constructed as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 17th day of April, 1869.
' WILLIAM COOPER. Witnesses: l
J. M. JONES, l. HURDLE.,
