ARCI-IIE J'. HOBACK, JR., OF ROANOKE, VIRGINIA.
SANITARY STAMP-MOISTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, 1911.
Application filed July 11, 1910. Serial No. 571,299.
To atl whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, Anci-rin J. Hormon, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Roanoke, in the county of Roanoke and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Stamp-h/Ioisteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to in'iprovements in sanitary stainlpanoisteners, the present embodiment being particularly designed for carrying in the pocket for individual or per sonal use.
The primary objectof the invention is to provide a generally improved stamp-mois tener of this class of simple, cheap, and eiii cient construction, much better adapted to its intended purposes than any other device of the same class with which I am aequainted.
lVith the above mentioned ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in one of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l, is a view of the improved stamp -moistener with the parts in a closed position for carrying in the pocket of the user. F ig. 2.' a view with the protecting cap removed. Fig. 3, a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. l, a detail view of the moistening end with the protecting cap removed. Fig. 5, a similar view of a modified form of same.l Fig. 6, an end view of the moistening end, with the moistening element removed.
Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.
rIhe improved stamp moistener comprises abarrel or cylindrical body portion l, providing a reservoir 2, and terminating in a moistening end or perforated head la. The opposite end of the barrel or body7 l, is provided with a threaded opening adapted to receive and contain a threaded cap 3, whereby the reservoir 2, may be refilled with a moistening agent when desired.
The moistening end l, is provided with oppositely disposed slot openings 4, and an intermediate bridge member 5, for receiving and holding the moistening element in proper position as hereinafter described.
rlhe moistening element- 6, of felt or other suitable absorbent material is folded upon itself forming a U-sbaped folded portion 6, passing about and covering the bridge member 5, with the oppositely disposed members passing through and filling the slot openings t, and extending longitudinally throughont the reservoir 2, as shown most clearly in Fig. 3, of the drawings.
As a means for removably holding and detachably securing the folded members of the element (3, within the barrel l., oppositely disposed retaining pins 7, may be provided within the barrel l, near the open end thereof, said retaining pins being adapted to engage the free ends of the members by passing through slot openin 6b, as shown.
If desired, a moistening screen 8, of suitable material may be placed over the exposed or folded portion G, of the moistening element and removably secured in position by means of a threaded flanged ring 9, taking over and threaded upon a threaded end of the barrel as shown in Fig. 5, of the drawings.
A protecting cap l0, is provided for protecting the moistening end of the improved stamp moistencr when not in use.
Having thus described an embodiment of my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Iatent is,-
A stamp moistencr, comprising a barrel constituting a reservoir and provided with oppositely-disposed slot-openings and an intermediate bridge member. a detachable plug at the opposite end of said barrel, a moistening element folded upon itself forming a U shaped folded portion covering said bridge member with the side members thereof filling said slot-openings and extended longitudinally within said reservoir, and means for detachably attaching the free ends of said side members to the open end of said barrel.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
