'Ihe 1nain objecc of che present invention is the rovision 019 a heating apparatns which .may be conveniently supported fromany suitable st-ructure in which it is clesigned to ntilize the heat 1ising fron1 an illuminating means, such as a Ia1np 01" gas burner, as a heating medium without in any way interferinq with the :Eu1l ower of ehe illuminating effect.
The invention Will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accornpanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in s ecti0n of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a view sinni- 1ar t0 Fig. 1, showing the utensil carrier supported in a slightly difierent way.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown the heater as designed for use in connect-ion with gas, in Fig. 1 the dev'1ce being shown as constructed for the usual cen tra1 donble bracket burner and in Fig. 2 f01 use with the Wall or single bracket burner.
In Fig. 1 the carrier 18 comprises a dish shaped. body formed with a cent-ral op ening 1 1, the material of the body being projected above t-he plane 0f the same adjaceznt tl1e opening in the for1n 01 an annular flange 15. Integral with the carrie1 is a rod 16, ab the inner end of which is formed a sectional coupling s1eeve 17 carrying a set screw 18, whereby the arm may be secured to the pende nt pipe 19 of the gas bracket. A brace rod 20 depending fro1n t-he arm 16 ata point about cent-rally 015 the lat-ter is formed at its1ower end to straddle the bracket pipe 21.
'Ihe parts are so arranged that the flame' fron1 a burner Wi]l be directed through the opening 1 1, thereby heat-ing the utensil 22 which i.s supported in the carrier as shown.
In this form the flange 15 serves as an abutment to prevent 1naterial which boils over f1om the utensil finding its way into c0ntact with the fia1ne.
In Fig. 2 the carrier 23 is practically identical with that described in connection with Fig. 1, bcing dish-shapcd and having the central opening 14 surrounded by an upwardly extending flange 15. This form, however, is designed f01 nse in connection With the single Wall bracket burner, as 26, and is, therefore suspended by a chain 27 which at its lower encl is connected to brauch chains 28 which am secured co diametrically opposed points 0f the carrier, the chains 27 passing over suitable supportsas 29, and having any one 01 its links adapted to engage a 110011 30 secured in the wa11 of che 100n1, whereby the carrier may be suspended a1; any desired height relative co the flame fro1n the burner.
The dev'1ce as a whole provicles a simple anc1 efl'ective means for utilizing otherwise nseless heat and products 0f combustion fro1n the illuminating 1neans, permitting the use of such heat f0r cooking 01 power generating purposes, and this without in any way interfering with the fu1l and usual ower 0f the heating 1nediu1n as an illumi nant.
Having thus described the invention what is cla.imed as new, is:
A heating device comprising a carrier formecl With a central opening, the material of the opening being bent vertically upward t0 provide an annu1ar flange about the opening, the material of the carrier throughout the area thereof beyond the opening being inclined upwardly in all directions t0 provide an inclined base terminating in a free edge disposed above the free edge of the annular fiange, said inclined base of ehe sarrier extending 011 straight Iines 0f inclina tion f1om c-he opening t0 the fra edge and being of such length as compared With the height of the fiange thatthe engagement 0f a utensil with the upper surface of said base on a line equal to 0r above one-half its iength Will spac the bottorn 0'f the utensi1 fron1 the free uppen edge of the flange, whereby the botto1n of the utensil '1s subsi1s and carrier to receive the overflow fron1 In testimony whera6f I afiix my signature in presence 0f two itnesses.
