WALTER ROBERT WULFECK, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 31, 1910.
Patented Aug. 30, 1910. Serial No. 552,571.
To all 'whom it may conccrn:
Be it known that I, VALTER ROBERT VVUL- neon, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas burners such as are employed with cooking stovcs, hot air furnaces, steam and hot water boilers and has for its object the 'pi'ovision of a burner consuming a mixt-ure illustrated in the acoompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims; it being understood that various changes in the form, proport-ion, size, and minor details of the device may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the specification;-Figure l is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. F ig. 3 is a Vertical section taken on the line 3 -3 of Fig. 2.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
The body of the burner is designated by the numeral 5 and while I have shown the same to be annular in contour it must be understood that I am not to be limited to this specific Shape, since it will be readily understood, from what will appear later, how the body could be oblong or in fact formed to any shape without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
The body 5 is preferably formed of a single piece of metal and may be cast or otherwise formed to the shape specified. As shown in the drawings the burner is a tubular structure formed into an annulus and on its outer side and at the junct-ure of its upper and lower outer segments is split, such split extending entirely around the burner, whereby a combustion opening 6 is provided the opposite sides of which are designated by the numerals 7 and 8. The upper side '7 is extended beyond the side 8 and directed downwardly and over the side 8, as shown in F ig. 3 with its inner surface spaced from the adjacent surface of the side S. Writh this construction it will be manifest that the overlapping side 7 will act as a defiect-or for the flame in the opening 6, whereby the fiame nearest the opening will be directed downwardly and onto the parts to be heated.
The pipe which supplies the mixture of air and gas to the burner is designated by the numeral 9, having one end fiared to receive the gas supply pipe 10, the said fiared end and pipe 9 being greater than the diameter of the gas supply pipe so that the gas passing through the latter will be mixed with the air passing through the fiared end of the pipe 9. The pipe 9 terminates at the medial portion of a horizontal tubular extension 11, the opposite ends of which are tapped into the body of the burner at diametrically opposite points, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
Vith this construction it will be manifest that a mixture of air and gas passing through the tubular extension 11 will enter the burner at opposite point-s and exit through the combustion opening 6 atI which it may be ignited and owing to the continuous opening 6 a solid wall of flame directed in a downward extension will be produced.
From the foregoing, it is evident that I have provided a device which is comparatively simple in structure, and inexpensive in manufacture, embodying few parts and these so arranged that the danger of derangement will be reduced to a minimum.
