CHARLES GERLAOH, OF PHILADELPHIA,
PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN L. GAUMER GAS-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented April 28, 1908.
Application filed S eptember 4, 1907. Serial No. 391,299.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES GERLAOH, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Gas-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in hanging gas fixtures in which an inverted burner is mounted under a dome.
The object of the invention is to so locate the cock for regulating the flow of gas that it will be within easy reach without becoming overheated dispensing with the chains now usually employed which cast shadows. This object I attain in the following manner, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1, is a view, partly in section, of a dome gas fixture illustrating my invention; Fig. 2, is a plan view showing the location of the gas cock in the corner of the dome; and Fig. 3, is a detached sectional view of my improved fixture.
A is the dome of an ordinary hanging gas fixture, B is the base of any form of inverted incandescent lamp, and B is the globe of said lamp mounted within the dome. a is the gas pipe attached to the canopy and having the usual threaded portion.
My improved fixture consists of a coupling D, a gas cook casing E having the ordinary gas cook 6 therein and two pipes F, F; these pipes are screwed into the coupling D and into the cock casing E The coupling D is divided by a central partition (Z so that the gas will flow into the coupling from the pipe (I, then through the coupling into the pipe F down to the cock casing E then, if the cock is turned in the right direction, up through the pipe F into the lower part of the coupling and to the burner.
By making the fixture in the manner illustrated I am enabled to move the gas cook to a point in close proximity to the walls of the dome and within easy reach of any one lighting the burner; at the same time the gas cock is moved far enough away from the burner that it will be out of the line of the rays of light and heat and consequently will not throw any shadow and will also be far enough away from the burner that it will not become overheated.
The attachment can be readily applied to any existing dome fixture.
In Fig. 2, I have shown the fixture arranged directly in the corner of a square dome so as to be entirely out of the way,but it will be understood that it may be arranged at any point desired, depending considerably upon the shape and character of the dome or shade fixture.
I claim 1. The combination in a gas fixture, of a l burner, a fixture consisting of a coupling, a gas cook casing and two pipes leading from the coupling to the gas cook casing, and a dome surmounting the above described parts, said gas cook casing being arranged within the dome some distance from the burner, substantially as described.
2. The combination in a gas fixture of a gas supply pipe, a burner, a coupling having a central partition forming two compartments, one compartment being connected to the supply pipe and the other to the burner,
two pipes extending from the coupling, one attached to the coupling on one side of the partition and the other attached to the coupling on the other side of the partition, a gas cock casing attached" to both pipes and mounted between them, and a dome surmounting the above described parts, substantially as described.
3. A fixture for attaching to a dome gas fixture consisting of a coupling, a gas cook casing, a cock therein, two bent tubes leading l from the coupling to the casing, said coupling having a central partition, one tube con nected with the coupling on one side of the partition, the other tube connected to the coupling on the other side of the partition, being shaped to fit a gas the said coupling burner pipe, substantially supply pipe and a as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
