BOTTLE ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIA VAN CLI'EF GEAR, a citizen of the United States, res1ding at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have 1I1- vented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in attachments for bottles and more'particularly to an indicating device adapted to be applied to a bottle containing poison or other injurious contents whereby when the bottle is picked up the hand will contact with the indicating device or attachment and thereby call the persons attention to the injurious nature of the contents of the bottle. I
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive attachment of this character which is constructed of rubber or other elastic material so that it may be readily applied to bottles of difi'erent sizes and shapes, its construction being such that the hand will naturally engage it when the bottle is picked up and at the same time such that it' will not cover the label on the bottle or interfere with the removal of the contents.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and ar rangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle showing my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device removed from the bottle; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the bottle and the attachment.
In the drawings 1 denotes a bottle or other container which may be of any size and shape and on which my improved p0i son indicating attachment 2 is arranged. This attachment is in the form of a harness constructed of rubber or other elastic material and it consists of two upright side strips 3 having their upper ends united to a neck band 4 and their lower ends united to a body band 5, the opposite side portions of which latter are united by crossed bottom strips 6. The body band 5 surrounds the bottle at a point below the label 7 while the neck band 1 surrounds the neck of the Specification of Letters Patent.

The side strips 3 extend vertically along the opposite sides of the bottle and in order to more forcibly indicate to the person picking up the bottle that it contains poison or other injurious substance, said side strips are provided with indicating means, the latter consisting of buttons or projections 8 formed on the outer faces of said side strips. If desired, these projections may be arranged also on the neck band 4 and on the body band 5 but I preferably place on the latter the word Poison, as shown in Fig.
1. The crossed bottom strips 6 serve to prevent the body band 5 from slipping upwardly on the bottle and they also serve as a cushion for the bottom of the bottle to prevent the latter from being broken when it is carelessly placed on any hard surface or support.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by constructing the attachment as set forth it may be readily applied to various sizes and shapes of bottles, within certain limits, that it will not cover the label on the bot tle, that it is so arranged that it will naturally be engaged by the hand when the bottle is picked up and that it serves not only as an indicator but also as a cushion for the bottom of the bottle.
What is claimed is:
The herein described poison indicating attachment for a bottle constructed in asingle piece of elastic material and comprising parallel upright side strips having inwardly converging upper ends united to opposite sides of a circular neck band, the latter and said side strips being formed on their outer faces with integral projections, a body band united to the side strips adjacent their lower extremities, and extending from opposite edges of said side strips, and crossed bottom strips, one of the latter having its end united to the lower extremities of said side strips and the other bottom strip having upwardly bent extremities united to the side portions of the body band, said crossed bottom strips being united to each other at their point of intersection, and being adapted to serve as a cushion for the bottom of a bottle.
