COMBINATION HANDLE AND TRIFOIL WAND DEVICE FOR BLOWING BUBBLES FROM A SOAP SOLUTION Filed Apr1l 9 1962 II/I'I'I'I INVENTOR. fiAI/AD (7. 1905.5 25/ United States Patent 3,144,950 CQMBTNATHEN HANDLE AND TRHFOIL WAN!) DEVICE FOR BLOWING BUBBLES FROM A SOAP SOLUTHBN David J. litosenheim, Deal, N.J., assignor to Laurel lastics, inc, Wanamassa, N.J., a corporation of New ersey Filed Apr. 9, 1962, Ser. No. 185,949 9 Claims. (Cl. 215-109) The present invention relates to a toy device, and it particularly relates to a combination plastic device for blowing bubbles.
It is among the objects of the present invention to provide a combination wand and plastic cup arrangement for use by children to permit the blowing of bubbles without the need of having separate parts which must be packaged together and attached so as not to be lost.
Another object is to provide a unitary arrangement of a plastic cover, cup and wand for a bubble blowing device to be used by children which may be molded simply and packaged as a unit and distributed.
Still further objects and advantages will appear in the more detailed description set forth below, it being understood, however, that this more detailed description is given by way of illustration and explanation only and not by way of limitation, since various changes therein may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.
In accomplishing the above objects, it has been found most satisfactory according to an embodiment of the present invention to provide a plastic cup desirably of flexible polyethylene, a snap-on cap also desirably of plastic polyethylene, and an attachment for said cap consisting of a detachable wand with one or more openings which may be dipped into the liquid and then used in the blowing of soap bubbles.
In the preferred form of the invention, the cap is molded desirably integrally with the wand, and with a readily thin bendable form-retaining integral connection, which will permit the wand to be disconnected from the cap and to be used as a separate construction by the child or other person playing with the toy.
In the preferred form of the invention, the cup consists of a conical member with a flat bottom having a peripheral ridge at the upper edge thereof.
The snap-on cover on the other hand has a depending skirt with an interiorly projecting bead which snaps over said ridge.
At the edge of the skirt adjacent one side thereof is an integrally molded wand consisting of an arm and one or more loops three being shown in the specific embodiment disclosed.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:
FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of the complete cup of the present invention with the wand bent downwardly against the side of the cup showing the manner in which the device is packaged.
FIG. 2 is a top perspective view showing the cup moved upwardly and extending out horizontally from the snapon cap.
FIG. 3 is a vertical side sectional view of the cup show- 3,144,950 Patented Aug. 18, 1964 ing the Wand as it may be used for dipping into the liquid in the cup with the cap serving as a handle.
FIG. 4 is a transverse sectional view upon an enlarged scale of the upper part of the cap with the wand extending outwardly horizontally from the edge of the cap.
Referring to FIGS. 1 to 4, there is shown a snap-on cap A with a lower cup B.
Molded integrally with the cap A is the wand C.
The cup as shown as the conical side and flat bottom 17 may be filled with liquid up to the dot and dash line as indicated in FIG. 3.
The upper edge of the conical cup portion has a bead 15' with an upper sloping edge and the lower sharp edge which engages the semi-circular round bead 16 which snaps below the edge 15.
The cap A has a fiat top and a depending skirt which at the portion 10 has a thin flexible or bendable formretaining integral. connection with the wand C.
The wand C terminates at its outer end in three loops at ll, 12 and 13 arranged in the form of a three leaf clover with a central opening 14 midway between the loops.
It is, of course, possible to use one loop or even a greater number than three, but desirably, three loops seem to be most effective.
The plastic at the junction 10 is normally biased by the molding so that the wand C will extend out horizontally as indicated in FIG. 2, but may be folded down as indicated at FIG. 1 against the side of the cup B.
The plastic at the bend 10 is of such thickness and structure that it will retain its form and shape either in the horizontal aligned position of FIG. 2 or the right angular position of FIG. 1. It will be noted that the connection is thinner than the wand or trifoil C and is thinner than the skirt of the flat cap A which has a base 15 of about the same thickness as the connection 10.
As indicated in FIG. 3, the top A may be used as a handle to carry the wand C and the wand C may be dipped into the liquid and may be used for blowing bubbles.
After use, the cap A may be snapped onto the container B and the wand folded down against the side as indicated in FIG. 1.
It is thus apparent that the applicant has provided a simple compact readily molded sanitary blowing bubble device for children which may be utilized.
As many changes could be made in the above plastic cup, and many widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope of the claims, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, what is claimed is:
