KURTZON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
arena MORRIS KURTZON AND GEORGE E.
DRAWER-PULL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MORRIS KURTzoN and Gnonen B. KUnTzoN, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Pulls, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to drawer pulls and refers particularly to that class of drawer attachments in which provision is made for holding a label in such manner that it will be exposed to view.
The primary objects of the improvements which form the subject matter of this application are :-to provide a simple and efiicient device of the character stated; to furnish a label exhibiting drawer pull that will permit labels of any thickness and material to be easily and readily attached and securely held in place, and from which they can be quickly removed; and to produce a device that can be manufactured economically, the latter result being especially due to the form and construction of the holder which permits the entire pull and label holder to be struck from a single piece of sheet metal.
We accomplish the desired results by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, the details of construction being shown in the following views Figure 1 is a front elevation of our improved label holding drawer pull or handle, with a label engaged by the holding members, and exposed to view through the sight opening; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the details disclosed in the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a base or bearing plate, rectangular in shape and furnished with holes 6, to receive the usual attaching screws, by means of which the pull is secured to the drawer front, said screws not being shown. The plate 5 is provided with a gripping portion 7, formed by being pressed or struck up from the said plate in the ordinary manner. The grip portion 7 is inolosed on all sides except the bottom and rear, and has its front wall 8 parallel with the back or bearing plate 5. The top wall or Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 489,437.
covering plate 9 of the grip is furnished with the usual oblong sight opening or window 10, in which a label 11 may be secured and thus exposed to View, the incline of the plate 9, which slopes downward from the bearing plate, as shown in Fig. 3, rendering the label readily observable. The said label is clamped and securely held before said window by a pair of retaining tongues or clips 12, which are integral with the plate 9, and are constructed in the following manner.
In cutting the window 10, the metal is severed along the side margins 13, 14: only leaving the ends intact, and a portion of the metal between the cuts is removed, thus leaving the said tongues or clips 12 connected along the end margins 15 to the said plate 9. The tongues are then depressed by bending them along the lines 15, so that the inner ends 16 are slightly inclined forward. The metal of which the device is constructed will be naturally resilient and there will thus be sufficient spring in the tongues thus bent forward, to permit of the introduction of a strip of glass or porcelain, which con st-itutes the label, between them and the under face of the said top plate 9. The label will thus be securely held from displacement by the jarring of the drawer as it is pulled out or in, andv when the pull is attached to a drawer front the label cannot be removed until it is raised so as to clear the lower edge 14 of the sight opening, sufficient space being left between the said opening and the upper edge of the bent wall 9 to permit this movement. The label is prevented from sliding downward by the engagement of its lower margin 17 against the inner face of the upper portion of the front wall 8 of the grip and the ends are restrained by the bent portions 15 of the tongues. The spring action of the clips will compensate for variations in the thickness of the labels, and firmly clamp them in place against end movement or accidental upward movement.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new, is
A drawer pull composed of a single piece of metal formed to provide an inclined front wall and a vertical wall below the inclined Wall, the junction of said walls forming a In testimony whereof We affiX our signastop on the inside of the pull,-and-said intin-es in 'thepresence oftwo Witnesses.
