Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEC ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 26, 1906.
Application led December 12, 1905. Serial No.4 291,405.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH SUEssxrND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Advertising Device, of which the Jfollowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an advertising novelty which is adapted for application to a napkin, clothes, and the like designed to be used in various places, especially in restaurants, for advertising purposes in general.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a readily removable plate upon which advertisements may be placed and to mount it in a removable manner upon a support adapted to be applied and secured to clothing or to be connected with other articles of ordinary use.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, formin a part of this specification, in which simi ar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a view showing the manner in which my invention is intended to be used. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one form of my invention. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 is a rear view of the same with the rear portion removed on the line 4 4 in Fig. 8. Fig. 5 is a plan of one element of the device. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a holder constituting an element of the invention with a plate of slightly-modified form in place thereon, and Fig. 7 is a perspective view of an advertising plate adapted to be supported by the holder.
My invention comprises a support, preferably in lthe form of a spring-clip a, having jaws a and a spring a2, whereby it can be secured to the clothing, to a napkin, or to other articles of a similar nature. On the back of the support I mount a pin a3, preferably secured to the support in a xed position with respect thereto, so as to provide an additional means for mounting the support in a convenient position. At the rear of the front side of the support is a socket a, preferably extending from the top, at which it is open, toward the bottom of the support. This socket is designed for supporting a holder b, this holder being provided with a tongue t', projecting downward from the rear of its up er surface and designed to enter the soc et above described. It will be seen that the holder is removably held by the support hanging dependently therefrom and connected therewith at its upper end. Consequently it is in no danger of being displaced.
in ordinary uses, but can readily be removed when desired. The holder is formed in any desired shape-as, for example, in the shape of a shield, as shown, and around its edges, except at the top edge, it is provided with an inwardly-extending iange b2, separated from the front of the holder by a peripheral groove b3, extending under the flange.
For the purpose of mounting advertisements in the holder I provide plates c of the same general shape as the holder and adapted to enter the groove b3 therein and to be supported on the front surface of the holder in an obvious manner. This plate is designed to bear advertising or ornamental designs or letterin upon its front surface and is preferably ormed of sheet metal, celluloid, or similar material. If desired, the front surface of the holder itself may be provided with a part of the advertisement, and the advertising-plate can then have a perforation c or transparent portion to permit that part of the advertisement to be seen, as shown in Fig. 6. The advertising-plate can be, as will be readily understood, removed and replaced by another plate bearing another advertisement, thus affording a variety of advertisements at a com aratively small cost.-
I-Iaving thus descri ed my invention, I claim- 1. In an advertising device the combination of a support having means for removably mounting it, and having a socket with a holder having a tongue for engaging said socket, and an advertising-plate removably supported on the holder.
2. In an advertising device the combination of a support having a socket at the upper end thereof, a holder having a tongue extending downwardly from the upper portion of the rear side and entering said socket and having flanges, and an advertisingplate of the same general shape as the holder nldremovably held by said flanges on the o er.
