UNI-TED A STATES PATENT FRED .WEIND'EL, JR., ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO L. F. GRAMIMES 8a SONS, INC., OF ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF MABYLAN D CARD HOLDER 1 Application filed February 19, 1930. Serial No. 429,520.
This invention relates to card holders, and has more particular reference to a type do signed for supporting individual cards in upright position for convenience of ready readmg. I
My invention is directed toward provision of a card holder of the type referred to having the form of an integral structure which is complete with a base and an upstanding clip to support the card, and which is conducive to economic manufacture in quantity by die stamping from metal or other sheet material.
f In the attached drawings, Fig.I is a perspective view showing the manner in which the card holder of my invention is intended to be used.
II is a sectional view of the card holder on a larger scale; and, 4 V
Fig. III is a diagrammatic view illustrating how the card holder may be conveniently fabricated from sheet'metal by die stamping.
With detailed reference. first more particularly to Figs. I and II of these illustrations, it will. be observed that my novel'card holder is made from sheet material and comprises a base portion 5, which, in the present instance, is circular, and from which rises centrally an integrally formedclip 6 to support a card C substantially in upright position. As shown, the clip 6 consists of a joggled or undulatorily formed tongue 7 which is punched centrally out of the base portion 5, and a finger 8 which is in turn punched centrally out of the tongue 7 and offset laterally from the latter somewhat with provision of a constricted interval 9 for insertion and retainment of the card C. o
By virtue of the simplicity of its construc tion, the card holder of my invention is conducive to very economic fabrication, by die stamping blanks B from sheet metal stock or the like S as in Fig. III with incident formation of the tongue 7 and the clip finger 8.
' Either concurrently, or by a subsequent operation as may be found desirable or convenient in practice, the tongue 7 and the fingcr 8 of the clip portion 6 may be set up into the relation described in connection with Figs. I and II; while the finger 8 is flexed or joggled laterally at its lower portion so as to inherently tend to grip the upper edge of the tongue 7.
o W' hen made to small dimensions in the form herein illustrated, my card holder is especially suited l or inclusion in packages of food commodities or culinary products together with recipe cards giving instructions as to the use of such commodities and proclucts. Its utility may be further enhanced if desired, by printing or embossing upon the base portion 5, an advertisement or trade mark'descriptive or indicative ofthe associated product or commodity.
Having thus described ,my invention, I claim: I
1. As a new article of manufacture a sheet material card holder comprising a base portion with an integrally formed upstanding vrndulate-tongue struck out to one side of the center of said base portion, and an integrally formed clip finger struck out of the tongue and offset laterally thereto for co-operation with nch tongue in providing grippage sup port .1 or the card.
2. As a new article of manufacture a sheet material card holder embodying a circular base portion with an integrally formed upstanding undulate-tongue punched out to one side, of the center of such base portion, and a correspondingly-looated integrally-formed conformative-finger punched centrally out of the tongue and offset forwardly for co-opcration therewith in providing grippage support for the card.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name at Allentown, Pennsylvania.
February, 1930.
