PIN-PACKAGE.
serali.
Application filed March 11,
T o all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, Lou J. DowNiNG, citi- Zen ot the United States of America, residing at Coffeyville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful improvements in Pin-Packages, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to packages for merchandise, and the special object of the invention is to produce a package for pins wherein they may be conveniently kept and exposed for sale, and which will admit of one or more pins being very readily and conveniently extracted for use.
lJVith these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved const-ruction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
En the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and prei-erred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the invention may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing,-Figure l is a perspective view of the improved pin package. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective View showing the interior cone detached.
Correspondin0V parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters ot reference.
In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing there is shown a. receptacle which has been illustrated in the ornamental form of a light house, said receptacle 27 being equipped with a detachable cover 28 having threaded concentrally disposed aperture 29. Within the receptacle 27 is fitted a conical member 8O within which the pins are placed, said conical member, which is hollow, being made of sheet metal, pasteboard, glass or any other suitable material of such dimensions that the base thereof shall rest upon the bottom of the receptacle 27, while the apex which has a discharge aperture, best seen at 31 in Fig. 2, extends slightly within the single Speciication of Letters Patent.

discharge aperture 29 of the lid or cover 28, whereby the said conical member will be retained securely in position within the receptacle. rihe conical shape of the member 30 within which the pins are coniined obviously tends to guide the pins one by one through the discharge apertures.
ln the construction of the improved device the interior dimensions must be so related to the pins contained therein that the pins will be of greater length than the major interior diameter of the receptacle and ot' a length which is less than the length of the receptacle; the reason being the necessity for keeping the pins all arranged with their heads in the direction of the apertures provided for the escape ot the pins and without possibility of the pins becoming overturned when the receptacle is shaken for the extraction of the pins.
In illing the receptacle which constitutes the improved pin package, it is only necessary to exercise care that the head of each pin be directed toward the escape apertures; then after replacing the closure, the device is ready for use. To extract the pins, the receptacle is simply held in an inclined position or with the apertures directed downward, after which by slightly shaking the receptacle, the pins will escape singly through the aperture or apertures and may be caught upon the table or in the hand. Should more pins escape than are needed for present use, they may be returned point first through the aperture of the receptacle.
This improved device constitutes an extremely simple and convenient package in which pins may be exposed for sale, the contents of the package being more conveniently accessible than when pins are kept in papers or packages of the character now customarily employed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A pin package consisting of a tubular receptacle, and a conical tubular guide member within said receptacle, the apex of said guide member entering a discharge aperture in the receptacle.
2. In a pin package, a tubular receptacle having a detachable lid provided with an aperture, and an interior conical hollow guide element having an aperture at the apex, said apex being tted in the aperture of the detachable lid.
3. A pin package .comprising a tubular receptacle having a detachable lid provided With an aperture, in combination with a hollow nterorly disposed guide member having an aperture at the apex thereof, said guide member being disposed with its base resting upon the bottom of the receptacle 10 and with its apertured apex tted n the aperture of the detachable lid.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
