UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO MAGENAU, OF FREMONT, NEBRASKA.
DISPLAY-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 517,873, dated April 10, 1894. Application filed March 31, 1893. Serial No. 468,457- (IIo model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO MAGENAU, a resident of Fremont, in the county of Dodge and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of .the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in display racks, and more particularly to such as are used for displayinggoods put up in small boxes or packages, such as a lip salve.
The object of my invention is to produce a rack for the purpose stated which shall be neat and ornamental in appearance and which shall be effectual in the performance of its functions. g
A further object is to so construct a display rack of the description above specified, by means of which a number of boxes or packages of goods can be displayed on the front thereof and means provided on the back for receiving a reserve supply of the boxes or packages of goods.
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a face view of my improved rack. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
A represents my improved rack which is preferably made of a sheet of tin .or other sheet 'metal, or, if desired, a sheet of paste board'or other suitable material may be employed. The rack or sheet A is provided with a series of openings a, which may be of any desired form and arranged as shown in the drawings or in any other preferred manner. In the drawings I have shown the openings at as round for the reception of round boxes of lip salve, but it is evident that these openings may be made of any shape or size desired corresponding with the shape of the boxes to be supported by the rack.
Secured to the back of the rack behind the openings a are plates b,said plates having flanges .c which are soldered or otherwise fixed to the back of the rack, said plates being adapted to prevent the boxes placed in the openings at from falling through said openings.
Aseries of reoeptaclesB are secured to the back of the rack for receiving a reserve supply of boxes. These receptacles may conveniently consist of a series of rectangular ways having inwardly projecting flanges c to prevent the escape of the boxes of goods placed in them. The lower ends, as well as the upper ends of the receptacles or ways B may be open and the lowermost boxes be permitted to rest on a flange d projecting rearwardly from the lower edge of the rack.
0n the face of the rack certain matter will be produced indicative of the goods contained in the boxes, the name of the manufacturer and advertising or other desired matter.
My improved rack is very simple in const ruction, neat and ornamental in appearance, cheap to manufacture and effectual in the performance of its functions.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is f As an article of manufacture, adisplay rack consisting essentially of a flat plate or card having openings therein and adapted to rest on its lower end or edge, back plates located behind these openings, open elongated receptacles secured on the back of the plate within the space formed by the back plates, and a rest connected with the back of the plate to support the device in its elevated position, said rest constructed and capable of being made to enter the space formed around the back receptacle when folded, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing' witnesses.
OTTO MAGENAU.
